16 years. That's how long it has been since the last time I saw Charles. That's how long it has been since a strange man appeared at my house.

That's how long it has been, since I last saw my first true love.

I now live happily with Sal, my husband, who has not once disappointed me in all these years of marriage, my real true love and my 14 year old daughter, Mya , who enjoys book as much as I do.

I see her coming through the front door, excited.

"What happened?"

"I just found an old book from a store that sells old and used stuff!"

"Oh that's nice honey", I smile, studying the book she's holding.

She comes closer to show me the book.

It can't be. The same dark cover, golden letters and darker kind of white pages. Isn't it pretty, she asks.

After all these years, the book still somehow found It's way back to me. I don't tell her that, of course. No one shall ever find out about Charles and what happened that night, I want to keep it that way.

She opens the book to the first page, the sentence I wrote years ago.

Love is worth the wait -Charles Winston

My hands are shaking

*

I take a look at the book from the shelf, studying it's beautiful cover. It reminds me so much of the night that I'll never forget.

I sit on the balcony, looking at the sunset, while I open the first page..

*

It's midnight. Not a soul to be heard, so peaceful and beautiful. I turn to the last page of the book.

I close it. I finished it. One last time.

I look around.

Nothing.

I was hoping that, maybe now It would work. I sigh, heading inside.

I suddenly see a bright light behind me, forming into a tall man. Charles.

He is smiling at me. I run as fast as I could and suddenly I'm seventeen again, lost in his arms with teary eyes.

"You came back", I'm shaking, "I waited for you for 16 years!"

He doesn't say anything, but pulls me into another hug, so tight I knew he never wanted to leave.

"I'm sorry", he whispers.

We don't say anything. Just stare into each others' eyes.

"Not a single day went by, that I did not think of you", he says it so gently that I blush at his voice.

"You were right", I admit to him, "True love does come in right time and I met the man who treats me so well."

"I am so happy to hear that", he hesitates, "Because I came here to say my last goodbye to you".

No no no no no no. Not yet. Please.

"I have to go back for good. I just had to make sure you were doing okay, I could not leave you, without knowing you moved on. I had to keep my promise", he says softly.

He just pulls me in and I hug him tightly, not ever wanting to let go.
