The night is beautiful.

Haechan knows all these different kinds of places and secret little spots that are just so beautiful — which isn't surprising since it wasn't his first time touring the country. The photographer in me doesn't miss the opportunity to whip my phone out and snap photos at every view or stray animal we cross.

Weaving down streets, the yellow cast from the streetlights illuminate the road as we walk comfortably next to each other. No noise bar the sound of wind. We get a couple of looks from fellow pedestrians, and I'm not surprised. We look like two teenagers who decided to ditch their prom early with the way we were dressed.

We walk aimlessly for about an hour, and for the first time, I felt no reason to ask him where we were going. He's never led me into the woods and killed me yet, so I guess I dropped my guard and trusted him.

Once he leads us back to his car, I get in and fasten my seatbelt. He drives, and it's when my head hits the glass of the window, my mind fills with worry again. He must sense the way my breath hitches and I close my eyes to try and prevent the tears.

"Do you wanna talk about it some more?" He whispers in comfort.

I shake my head fast, "The more I think about it, the more I realise I might have proved their assumptions about me to be right."

He shakes his own head, very slowly and timid. I don't allow us to have eye contact yet, but I feel the way he's burning holes in my skin. I don't like looking him in the eye — not because they're ugly, they're the opposite actually — but his eyes have this superpower that forces me to spill my guts to him. Like there's no lying to him because his eyes can read anybody like a book.

"That's not true, Arya. You need to stop thinking like that."

I sigh, "I ruined tonight, just like they said I would."

He stops the car, and my eyes widen.

"What are you doing we're in the middle of a main road you idiot?"

"Do you need a hug?" he then asks.

"A-A hug? R-Right now? F-from you?"

"Why would I offer a hug on behalf of somebody else?" He asks, almost offended.

I meet his eyes, they're vulnerable, and he's looking at me with a quiet expression. A stray curl hovers over the bridge of his nose before he huffs out.

"Just get out the car and let me give you a hug."

The tension between Haechan and I had always been palpable, a constant clash of wills and opposing forces until now. Our relationship consisting of fiery exchanges was now being redefined by this particular evening.
