Herman finished casting his spell and all of a sudden out of no where a terrific wind storm swept up all the undeads far away.
"What? Where did that wind storm came from?"
Fey looked behind in confusion and astonishment.
As she looked behind, she found Herman staggering and unable to stand straight. Guessing by the looks of Herman, it seemed that Herman had finished casting his spell which in turn resulted in his mana depletion. She understood that the windstorm was created by Herman. She quickly ran towards Herman to support his stance.
After the storm swept away the undeads, Zan fell down losing his consciousness.
To see another person fall infront of her, Fey started to panic.
"What? What do I do now?"
She shouted out in a state of panic.
Just then she heard a small stuttering voice of Herman. Despite depleting his mana Herman was still conscious.
"Leave me here for a while and go tend to Zan. I can rest by myself but it seems that Zan's condition is quite serious right now."
Herman uttered.
Unsure about whether to follow the words of Herman or not, she hesitates. She who have seen the sight of Zan which she had never seen before is terrified to go near to Zan. Despite her hesitation and cowardice, she agrees with what Herman had spoken off. She gently lays Herman down and moves toward Zan slowly. As she gets closer to Zan, her cowardice gets the better out of her and she still hesitates.
"What are you doing Fey? What are you doing right now? Isn't he a close friend of yours? Didn't he saved you previously? So what are you doing right now? Hesitating to help the friend who saved your life once, you're really pathetic!"
She curses herself.
A moment of hesitation and a moment of self reflection follow up. And after finally settling down her thoughts, she comes to a realization.
She realises what Zan means to her. She expresses that she'd regret for her whole life, if her cowardice got the better out of her.
Upon her realisation, she finally musters up her courage and approaches Zan slowly.
"Are you alright Zan? Wake up Zan! Wake up!"
She continues shouting.
As she checks on him, she notices the constant drop in his vitality. At the rate his vitality had been dropping, she assumes that he'd die in a moment. Tears start rolling out of her eyes.
"No Zan! No, you can't die! Please wake up Zan! Please I beg you!"
Fey starts pleading with teary eyes."What? What is this place? Where? Where am I? Did I die again?"
Zan mumbles as he opens his eyes and finds himself in an unknown space.
He holds his head in a state of dizziness. As he looks around, he finds himself floating in a dark space filled with shiny stars. The sight of the space astonishes him, but he starts to wonder why the space was so quite and empty.
The place was unusually quite that he could even hear his heartbeat. He starts to wonder if he had seen what lied infront of him somewhere before. While lost in his thought, a voice comes from a distance.
[So.. so you've finally come! I've been awaiting your arrival for a long. Alas! You've finally come.]
"Who? Who are you?"
[I'm the consciousness present inside you. Precisely speaking I'm the fragment of the body that you're inhabiting right now.]
"Huh? What do you mean by that?"
[Haven't you noticed it already that it's not the body that you were born with? I'm the previous owner of this body that you are currently residing.]
"So does that mean you're the owner of this body? But why are you only a mere fragment right now? Did you perhaps die? But if you did die, then how am I able to speak with you right now? Nothings making any sense uggghhh... I'm confused."
As they begin their conversation, Zan couldn't process all the information. The more the unknown voice revealed itself, the more he got confused.
[You've got quite a lot of questions. But I'm afraid that I won't be able to answer all those questions. The time is very limited, so I'll make it quick. Now that you've unlocked your mana, I'm sure that you've noticed the changes in your body. As you continue to improve we'll have further chances of meeting each other. So till then remember this, all you need to do is diligently focus on improving thyself and be able to consciously use the dormant power lying inside of you. And somehow if you're unable to own the power then you'll be the one who'll get owned by the power. What lies inside of you is something which could either make you or break you. Till then goodbye my friend.]
The consciousness warned Zan about the power lying inside of him. Thus he hurriedly spoke and then vanished in thin air, leaving him in the dark.
"What kind of power are you talking about? And who really are you?"
In a state of panic, Zan questioned while shouting out loud.
Even after repeatedly asking questions, no voice was heard after the last statement of the consciousness. He painstakingly kept calling out for the consciousness but couldn't hear a single word after the final words of the consciousness. And so he gave up after multiple failed attempts on calling out the consciousness.
'Why'd you come and speak of something , if you're not going to clarify it?'
Zan grunted in displeasure.
That mysterious encounter left him baffled. And so he started to think of every minute things mentioned by the consciousness. The more he thought the more lost he got.
That encounter made him question about his identity and existence in all. He started to question about the existence of the consciousness. No matter how much he tried he couldn't come to a definitive conclusion surrounding the mystery of the body and the mysteries surrounding the dormant power lying inside of him mentioned by the consciousness.
The thoughts only started to hurt his head. Followed by a severe headache writhing in agony he fell down while grabbing his head.
Just then a voice echoed in his head. A warm gentle voice which sounded as if somebody wanted him to awaken. The voice gradually became sadder and sadder.
And as he opened his eyes, he was greeted with the sight of Fey shedding tears and desperately calling out for him. Upon looking at the face of Fey, he let out a smile overjoyed with happiness.
'Am I finally out of that hellish nightmare? Perhaps that encounter was nothing more than a dream. But still that voice sounded too real to be a dream.'
He thought to himself.
Just then Fey looked ahead of her and found out Zan with a smiling face. Even though she was glad to see him alive, his smiling face annoyed her.
"What? What are you smiling at? Did you enjoy seeing me cry?"
Despite the joy of seeing him alive, she scolded him with a look of anger on her face.
Zan who's unaware about her tears, quickly apologized for worrying her and making her cry after hearing her. But despite the apology, she continued to frown for a while. Eventually she forgave him as he continued with his apology.
"Don't do that next time. You hear me? If you do that next time too, then I'll leave you to die."
She exclaimed with a puffy face.
'Do what? I don't remember doing anything? Also why I'm even here? Weren't we fighting the undeads a while ago?'
He thought to himself.
While looking at her face, he couldn't let out his inner thoughts. Hence he decided that it would be better to not let out his inner thoughts and make her worry more.
After that they continued their conversation forgetting the presence of Herman.
"Hmmm.. hmmm..."
Herman coughed.
Hearing him they both looked at Herman. Herman had just finished replenishing some of his mana. But the sight of them idly chatting in the battlefield bewildered him. And thus he interrupted them to drew up their attention towards the ongoing situation.
"Did you guys perhaps have forgotten that we're still in the battlefield? Or do you guys perhaps are confident in your ability to defeat the hordes of undeads who'll be chasing us?"
Herman scowled while looking at them.
He reminded them of the imminent danger and scolded them for their childish behaviour. He then reminded them that he had only blown away the undeads and did not kill them. Hence the undeads would soon be chasing after them in a while.
Hearing Herman all of them rushed towards the laboratory. Their doubts proved to be right. The undeads did indeed recover and started chasing after them.
Step... Step... Step...
They quickly rushed towards the laboratory. As they stood infront of the gates of the laboratory a magic spell flew close to their face just barely missing them.
"What? What is that?"
