Desperation

Upon the appearance of the sword infront of him, his pupils expanded in astonishment.
The ethereal moment felt unreal to him that he was having hard time to accept the reality, unfolding before his own eyes.
The creature which was already charging towards him didn't stop even after the appearance of the sword.
'What is it? Am I hallucinating? Or is it an illusion?'
Unable to believe the situation unfolding before his eyes, he questioned.
Zan stood straight, while looking at the sword ahead of him, trying to figure out the appearance of the sword.
But all along, after the appearance of the sword he seemed to have forgotten about the creature which was charging at him.
At the periphery of his eyes while he was looking at the sword, he saw the approaching creature. Startled by it's appearance he quickly grabbed the sword by it's hilt.
The creature's humongous teeths clashed against the sword as he parried the creature's attack.
Even though he blocked the attack he was pushed back. Despite blocking it's attack the gap between their strength was like that of heaven and earth.
If he wanted to get out of the precarious situation then he would have to think of something else, rather than to defeat it with his measly strength.
He quickly realized that he couldn't beat the creature with his sheer strength after parring it's attack.
While he was having difficulties on merely blocking the attack of the creature with all his might, the creature wasn't even breaking a sweat as it effortlessly pushed him back.
The creature widened it's maw as it started to chew on his sword. But somehow his sword withstood the continuous strikes from the creatures pointy sharp teeths. His sword seemed indestructible. No matter how many times or how hard the creature stroke at his sword, it didn't break, nor did any kind of dent appeared in it.
Mesmerized by his indestructible sword, his confidence greatly spiked.
A gleam of hope appeared infront of him and it appeared in the form of a sword.
'If the creature can't destroy this sword then may be it can cut through it.'
A thought appeared in his head as he looked at the struggling creature, who was having trouble breaking his sword.
To test out his hypothesis, he quickly retracted his sword and stepped aside. The creature which was forcefully charging at him, stumbled and crashed into the cave due to it's own force.
Just like how Newton's laws of motion states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, after Zan retracted his measly force, the creature was sent flying ahead due to it's own force.
Just when the creature lost it's balance as it stumblingly flew towards the cave, he ran opposite to the creature while pointing his sword towards it's belly.
The sword effortlessly cut through the belly of creature. But the cut was shallow due to the bad sword positioning of Zan.
"F*** It wasn't enough."
He cursed as he looked at the injured creature with a look of disappointment.
Upon seeing it's injury, the creature quickly realized that the sword was able to cut through it's body.
For this whole time, the creature thought of Zan as the prey which it could trample at any moment. But after seeing the cut in it's stomach, it's perception of Zan changed.
Zan was no longer a mere prey to it.
He was still a prey to it, but with slight changes. He was a prey which possessed threat to its existence.
Sensing the danger, it could no longer ignore his presence. If it carried on to toy with him, then may be it's self-indulgent actions might cost it, it's life.
The creature which was merely dictating the battlefield with it's sheer strength was forced to reveal it's magical prowess. It froze for a while without making any movement.
Suddenly Zan felt a burning pain in his shoulders. The same shoulder which was drenched in the droll of the creature.
"Argh... What the? Why's my shoulder hurting out of nowhere?"
Screaming in pain, he glanced at his shoulder.
The cloth around his shoulder was burnt and revealed his bare skin. Even his top layer skin was burnt and he could feel his flesh burning.
He staggered as he tried to dust his shoulder of the saliva of the creature.
As soon as he got rid of the saliva of the creature, first degree burnt marks appeared in his shoulder.
He then looked at his palm, the same palm which he used to clean the droll of the creature. His palms had the same burnt marks but he didn't feel any pain in his palm, whatsoever. May be it's because of his calluses or may be the skin in his palm was already numb. He couldn't feel any pain in it.
But as he stared at his palm, something clicked.
"May be it's the saliva of that creature."
He whispered.
But before he could figure out the mystery behind his burnt marks, the creature opened it's maw and spat towards him.
He cut through the spit of the creature. Droplets of it's spit, landed on his body. The tiny droplets were more than enough to make a hole in his clothe and burn his skin.
He felt a burning pain in his torso as the tiny droplet of spit landed on his torso.
He endured the pain by gritting his teeth.
After that, he finally understood the reason behind his burnt marks. The saliva of the creature was like an acid which could burn everything that it touched.
'What about the sword?'
He mumbled as he realised the reason behind the burnt marks.
He took a quick glance at his sword. His sword seemed unaffected by the acidic spits.
Relieved by the condition of his sword, he released a deep sigh. But the creature was not generous enough to let him have a moment of breather in the middle of ongoing battle, as it quickly released another attack towards him.
He staggeringly stepped aside barely evading the attack. The region around where the spit landed quickly melted.
"Damn that's terrifying. What kind of sorcery is it, to turn it's own saliva into an acid?"
He mumbled as he looked at the melted region.
Realising the dangers, he hid behind rocks to avoid it's attack. But no matter how many rocks he hid behind, all of them melted as the acidic spit landed on them.
Even so he couldn't hide all the time as he would eventually run out of places to hide. Thus, he decided to charge towards the creature. But recklessly charging, would mean his death.
"F*** What should I do? I can't just recklessly storm towards it and neither can I continue to hide behind this rocks. What should I do?"
He stammered looking all anxious.
As he continue to evade it's attack, a pattern became vivid in it's attack. It would attack and pause for slight seconds and attack again.
Not many could guess the unostentatious attack pattern of the creature. But even in that heat of a moment, Zan was somehow able to figure out the subtle attack pattern of the creature.
Taking advantage of the creature's shortcomings, he patiently waited for the creature to make another attack. Just when it opened it's maw to make another attack, Zan quickly ran towards it.
The creature was surprised by Zan's rash actions. It seemed to the creature that Zan was running towards his own death by rushing towards it's attack.
The creatures revealed a smug smile and it's spit flew towards Zan.
Just at the nick of time, Zan rolled down, barely dodging the acidic spit. The creature was left dumbfounded by his sudden evasion.
Thus before it could even react, from beneath it's maw, Zan's sword came flying towards it.
Splash~~~
Blood splashed all over him, dyeing him blood red colour, drenching him completely in blood.
It's throat was pierced by Zan's sword, crushing it's vocal chord. It couldn't even let out a scream.
It tried to flee away from Zan upon receiving the injury. But Zan wouldn't let him to escape from his clutch.
"No you're not going anywhere. Just when I've caught you and just when you're finally injured, I'm not letting you run away, even it cost me my life."
His hoarse voice filled with anger engulfed the whole surrounding as he let out a roar.
Zan was dead serious when he said those words.
The creature looked at him as it tried to flee away from him. It looked terrified for the first time since their encounter.
It started to recklessly swing it's claws towards Zan, desperately trying to push him away. But Zan wouldn't let go of the hold of the sword, no matter how hard he got hit by it's claws.
His clothe soaked with blood, ripped as the creature hit him with it's claws. His muscular lean body was tattered by the creature's attacks. His body was imprinted with deep claw marks as the blood seeped out of his wounds.
Yet he looked determined to take down the creature, even if he were to collapse there while fighting it.
Due to heavy blood losses, the creature's strength was significantly reduced. Thus Zan was able to barely hold out, even after getting hit by the creature.
