The historian's job within the academic world is to unravel what has happened in the past so that we can understand how we came to be who we are today, and how we can advance from this newfound knowledge. Of course, the historian can never provide accurate accounts of past events; history is distorted, fragmented and hidden. Therefore the historian's duty to paint a full image of our history becomes apparent with endless blank spaces on the canvas.
Stop. Think.
There are moments- no matter how small or 'insignificant' - that occur in our lives that we 'must' deem forgettable; embarrassments for example. Much of history, unfortunately, does not provide accounts of these minor moments, but if one person were to record every moment, every detail of their life, then history would become accessible to the historian (providing the person wrote an accurate and unbiased account).
Memories are essential to our survival.
Our intentions are not to fade, but to be remembered.
