"Give the kid back."

Y/N's eyes widened as he snapped his head towards Shouta. The two men were sitting across from each other at a cafe. The black haired male noticed that Y/N was off, so he asked what was wrong. So after Y/N denying the fact that he was upset, he finally to give Shouta his life story.

His Toya problem felt drastic. The (h/c) haired man had no idea how to handle it.

"What?! Were you even listening?! His parents are horrible! ... Or at least his dad is." Y/N exclaimed, frowning.

"Yeah, but technically, he isn't your responsibility. Not unless you're the official guardian. And you aren't." Y/N frowned thoughtfully, a wave of uncertainty washing over him.

To be truthful, Shouta was right. But Y/N's grown attached to the white-haired kid. He'd hate himself if one day Toya's parents' actions lead to the child's demise.

But now that he really thought about it, Toya said he had siblings. So technically, Y/N was keeping him away from his siblings who might seriously need him. The grown man had a flash of his own little brother. He wasn't there when Arata needed him most. If history repeats itself and something happens to Toya's siblings because of Y/N...

"UGHHHHH!!" Y/N slammed his head down against the table. All this thinking was taking too much of his brain cells' energy! Why does life have to be so fricking complicated?? "Shouta?"

"What?"

"Can I play with your fingers?" Y/N asked, weakly. Shouta sighed.

"Sure."

"Thanks." Y/N muttered as he started to fiddle with Shouta's hand. The black haired male was used to the other's request. Whenever Y/N would get stressed or upset, he would play with Shouta's fingers in particular. He says it's because he finds Shouta's tired and introverted presence relatable.

Shouta let out another sigh as Y/N began to pop his knuckles. The (e/c) eyed guy is like a man child.

...

...

...

So how come Shouta found it so cute?

"What?!"

Toya had jumped up and slammed his hands on the table as Y/N calmly continued to sip on his latte. Y/N told him about sending him back home.

And I think it's pretty obvious about how Toya feels about it.

"I have to go back?" Y/N sighed as he hesitantly nodded.

"I think... it's for the best. You said your family already saw you. They probably think you are dead or something. I don't think that I should keep you from your family any longer." Y/N stated, his (e/c) eyes looking to the side to dodge Toya's hurt expression.

"But... I don't want to go back there..."

"Don't you want to see your siblings? And your mom?"

"But he'll be there!" Toya yelled, referring to his father. The boy's been resenting his father since he's been hanging out with Y/N more and more.

"You hate him so much that you won't even put up with seeing him for the rest of your family?"

"Yes, because I don't need him anymore!" Toya practically screaming, jabbing his finger at Y/N. A moment of silence went through the room before Toya basically dropped into his chair. "If I go back, I'm positive they won't let me out of their sight. What if..." Toya trailed off, feeling a wave of sadness roll through him.

"'What if' what?" Y/N asked, biting the inside of his cheek, knowing what the boy was thinking. But just for the sake of swallowing the truth, he had to make him say it out loud.

"What if I never see you again...?" The white haired boy asked, burying his face into his arms as he put his head down. He didn't want the adult to see his watering eyes. How could just a couple of months make him realize what he's missing out on?

The boy felt a hand gently set itself on top of his hair.

"Come on, Toya, don't think like that. We'll definitely see each other again and you know it. Not to mention, if I know you as well as I think I do, you'll definitely figure out some way to get out of your house." Y/N chuckled, lightening the mood. Blue eyes met (e/c) ones. Y/N gave a closed eyed grin to the 13 year old. "So don't worry, I'll always find my way back to you."

Toya sniffled, wiping his face as he let out a small laugh.

"Haha, that... that was cheesy..."

"I know, right, I felt like I was pushing it."

The two laughed at each other as Toya's tears started to fade.

Genuine joy.

Even the worse sadness crumples in the presence of genuine joy.

Toya gripped his shorts as he walked beside Y/N.

"You think you're ready?" The adult asked, ruffling Toya's hair. Toya frowned as he moved Y/N's hand.

"I'm not a Pre-Ker."

"Heheh, I knew you would say that."

"You're annoying."

"I know~"

Toya sighed at the playful older male. He smiled as he held out his hand.

"I can come visit whenever I want?" Y/N gave a toothy grin as he clasped the boy's hand.

"Yup." He responded, popping the 'p'.

"See you then." Toya stated and with one last goodbye, the white haired boy rang the door. Y/N watched as another white haired boy stepped out and his eyes widened as Toya awkwardly waved at him. Y/N chuckled as he watched the boy scream his brother's name and hug him tightly. Toya hesitantly hugged back before trading a glance with Y/N, who gave a thumbs-up.

"Hah. That's how you know he missed his brother."

"I still can't believe you were alive all this time and didn't tell me!"

Todoroki Natsuo exclaimed at his brother, teary eyes as he laid next to Toya. The entire family thought that Toya was dead. So you can imagine their shock when Toya just shows up all of a sudden.

"I mean, me! Of all people!" Natsuo yelled. "You tell me everything! Do you know how worried everyone was?! I thought you were dead!"

"I know, I was told." Toya replied as he remembered how much his mom and sister clung to him, crying and telling him how they thought he was burned alive.

"So where did you even go?"

Toya sat in silence for a bit before sitting up and staring out the window. He smiled as his blue eyes followed the stars and moon. He smiled as Natsuo gave him a confused look.

"I think I went to heaven."
