Just friends still felt like a weird thing for Sero to consider them, but he was willing to tolerate it because it did feel nice to at least be back around Elise. He was pulling out ingredients from one of the refrigerators when he laughed, "Wait what did you just say doll?"

Elise was eating microwaved edamame with Mui, and he was trying not to focus on the phallic-shaped pea pod slipping between her red lips as she explained, "I said I've never cooked before."

Sero set the meat next to the piles of veggies. "How? I know I'm not supposed to ask, but how old are you? How have you survived this long without learning how to cook?"

"I'm 29."

Sero smiled sweetly. "You're 2 years older than me then."

Mui waved at Elise's body dramatically thus turning all their attentions to the energetic teen. "Have you seen her? Why would she need to cook? Men are killing each other for a chance to take her out to coffee let alone dinner!"

Yun had one of his airpods in above his guage stretched earlobes, but he was still mostly a part of the conversation thus he input, "It's true. If you look like ane-san, there is really no need to learn such a frivolous task."

"Besides yakuza men don't let women pay for anything anyways. It's why I wanna marry me a yakuza boy!"

Sero shook his head at Mui before winking at her playfully. "Even if you grow up to be as pretty as Eli, you still need to learn how to cook."

"No, she doesn't. She has me," Yun murmured protectively. "I've cooked all our meals and provided for us since we were kids."

The mood in the kitchen suddenly took a turn toward serious with the young man's oddly forceful comment. Sero looked over at Elise, who was already watching him like the mamma tiger she was. Sero knew Mui and Yun were special to her solely because of how much she doted on the teenagers, but he remembered Mui being excited to go to the compound- which she was only allowed to do because Chisaki and his members were out. Obviously there was so much more to their story than he had been told.

Sero tied a black apron around himself before tossing one on top of Yun's head. When the teen ripped it away from his face angrily, Sero gave him a full bright Hanta smile. "Well if you're such a good cook, show me what you've got."

Elise let out a deep breath she hadn't realized she was holding when Yun snatched the butcher's knife away from Sero and began carving up the pork with a few grumbled cursing words or challenge beneath his breath. She'd never admit it out loud, but if the kids disliked Sero, she would have kicked his ass to the curb in a fuck'n heartbeat. The girl drooling over Sero looking like the perfect domestic husband wearing an apron, and the surly boy taking his aggression out on those pork ribs were her entire world, and the fact they loved Sero...well that just gave the hardened yakuza mistress yet another reason to fall for the man asking her what her seasoning preferences were so that he can make their dinner for her tastes.

"Whatever you think is best, sunshine. I'll trust your palette, Mr. Chef," Elise purred which made Sero meet her gaze through the steam of the wok.

"You'll trust me?"

She hummed a yes.

The primal sound made Sero run his tongue across his teeth in an effort to withhold the growl from his voice as he admitted, "I like you." She cocked a sinful brow, so he added, "I like that YOU DO- that you trust me! That's what I like. N-not that I like you."

Mui shoved a full unpeeled edamame in her mouth to try and hide her giggles while Yun was not quite as kind. "Jeeze onii-san, you sound like a virgin flirting with his school crush."
