As the morning rolled over the Glass Shards Beach, New Jersey, inhabitants of Pines Pawns shop were starting their day.

7 year old Sharman Pines, was sitting on table next to his father, smashing two plastic dinosaurs against each other. And he didn't stop it when his mother placed the plate in front of him.

"Sharman, put them away and eat. They're not going anywhere." Caryn said, pushing her son's hands down.

At this, Sharman could only cross his arms and huff, before turning to his father.

"Dad! Help me!" The boy whined, tugging his father's shirt.

The man only sighed, putting his newspaper down, taking his son's hand off his own. "Listen to your mother, Sharman. You can always play when you're done with your breakfast. You don't have school, since it's summer."

Sharmie, through still not wanting to, put his toys on the table, before starting to eat. About halfway through, an idea came into young boy's head as looking up at his mother.

"Mom, are we going to visit May-May?"

Caryn looked at him in surprise, but that quickly turned into a smile. "Yes, Sharman. But you have to finish your food and get ready, or I'll be going on my own." She said in a joking voice, making her son giggle.

Sharman then quickly turned back to his food, taking the last few bits on his plate and drink.

"Alright. Done!" He stood up and went to put plate in the sink. "I gotta go and finish a gift, I have for her!"

The child then ran out of the kitchen, making his mother chuckle softly. Not even his father, "a hard, not easily impressed man" as everyone would call him, couldn't fight a fond smile from his son's antics.

"Oh, that kid, I swear..." Caryn sighed out.

"So... Mabel" Filbrick started, placing the newspaper down on table. "You're visiting that girl so much lately."

"I mean... who wouldn't like to stay with her for an hour or two?" Caryn shot a smile to her husband, holding mug with tea in her hands. "And... well..." She sighed.

Two weeks has passed since the small town was hit with sudden news of unknown girl washing up on a shore. The girl, Mabel, quickly became the talk of the town and there was barely anyone who still hasn't payed her a visit. Mabel herself was doing better and nothing was threatening her life.

And meanwhile, the town's police was looking for any clues of the girl's origins and her family. And the fact this was a case of child with amnesia didn't make it any easier. But despite the hard tries, even visiting nearby towns for potential suspects to be girl's family, no one turned up to claim they, at least, saw her or anyone who could be her guardian.

"They're still have no leads of her home... and Mabel is scared herself. Last time, I visited, she said what if she won't be able to remember her past... and..." Caryn looked away. "They're thinking about sending her into an orphanage if none will turn up for her by the end of this week..."

Now, Filbrick Pines was a tough man, which was expected, given that he became a father at eighteen, but he knew when the line was being overstepped. Sure, he didn't know the girl as well as his wife and son did... but he still cared enough for her to not want her to turn into wasted potential by being raised in foster system.

And then, it pushed him to an idea...

Mabel was sitting in her hospital room, playing with another child, who was set with her. The child, apparently, was about to go through a surgery and their mother was talking to doctor outside, so she wanted to keep their mind of things. She was going to have a hard day too, so it would also keep ker own mind at peace until the time came.
