"A BABY?" All three of the members of Pentatonix said in unison.
"You can't keep that child!" Kevin said with lots of enthusiasm. He was probably the most nervous about baby Regan.
"Well maybe they could, I mean she is just a baby. How old is she? 2 or 3 months?" Kirstie said. She always had a soft part for babies, seeing as she wanted to settle down with Avi, but he didn't know that.
"I don't know Kirst. Then they wouldn't be putting in 100% into this band, and we all need to do that if we are going to be making this 4th album. We need to write songs, go to the studio, plan out music videos, and plan a tour. It'd be too much." He wasn't even putting in 100%. Most of the time he was staring at Kirstie. He didn't want to be insensitive about baby Regan, but he honestly thought she wasn't a good idea.
Mitch sighed and looked at Scott while holding baby Regan. He looked into her eyes and started to tear up. He loved this baby even though he had only spent a few hours with her, she would cuddle and sleep on him all day, and then give her to Scott to feed her and make her laugh. She was a part of their family.
Kevin started, "What would her last name even be? Would we all be her legal guardians? How would we even-"
"Why does that matter? Last names, legal guardians." Mitch said with tears running down his face. "Why does it matter? What is a home? A home is a place that this baby can be loved and nurtured and cared for. Scott and I have only had this baby for a few hours. But we
her. We want her to be loved and have a place to call her home with the family she loves. Blood doesn't make a family. Love does."
The room fell silent for a moment. The only sounds were of Regan cooing and staring at Scott and Mitch with her big blue eyes. She smiled at Mitch with made him start to ball. He gave Regan to Scott and ran away to the bathroom. Just then Esther came in and said, "Hey you guys! What's wrong with Mit- is that a baby? Who's is it? She is so cute!"
Scott didn't even answer before he stormed out of the room to find Mitch. The other three in the room were looking at each other and contemplating if they could actually keep this baby.
Scott finally found Mitch outside of the building looking at the scene. He sat a few feet away and started making silly faces so Regan would laugh. It got Mitch's attention and he started to cry even harder. "Give her to me," Mitch stated and held the baby close to his heart, surrounding her in his coat. Scott joined their hug and started to tear up. This was a hug of all the people who he loved. "Could we even take well enough care of her?" Mitch asked Scott with wide eyes filled with tears.
"There is no doubt in my mind that we would be the best dads in the world to this baby girl," Scott replied. He placed his hand on Mitch's and his arm around his back.
"Really?"
"Really. Hey! And I even figured out her middle name!"
"What is it?"
"Sparrow."
"Sparrow. I love it. So urban and hipster."
"Doesn't the name 'Regan Sparrow Grassi-Hoying sound great?" Mitch's stomach did a flip when he heard her last name. Grassi-Hoying. That meant that this little girl was THEIR child. Mitch had always loved Scott more than a friend, but this confirmed that they would always have a bond. A child. Most men and women had that bond, but now two men that loved each other very much (one in a different way than the other) would share the special bond of a baby.
They went back upstairs to find the others had been sitting on the couch anxiously waiting for them to come back. Kirstie was the first to stand up and hug Mitch. She apologized and started to cry. How could I have been such a terrible friend? I doubted their ability to raise a child and work at the same time! Kirstie thought. Plenty of parents could do it, there is no doubt they could. She took Regan from Scott's arms and looked her in the eyes. "What's her name?" Kirstie asked.
"It's Regan. Regan Sparrow Grassi-Hoying," Mitch answered. Kirstie looked at Scott and Mitch with tears in her eyes. She was an aunt. It was a gorgeous feeling with a gorgeous meaning that was more special than anything she has felt before. Avi and Kevin had stepped over Kirstie's shoulders. Avi was playing with her hair and Kevin was tickling her feet. The biggest smile came onto her face and Pentatonix started to sing La La Latch. Regan was kicking her feet and smiling and laughing while they were singing. When Mitch hit the last note on, "NEVER", Regan kicked her feet and sang, "NEEVAA". The group clapped and laughed and sang more songs with Regan. This was definitely going to be the beginning of a very special baby.
