Date Night

It was a Friday night in December. They had had Regan for around 6 months, so she was 9 months old. She was already walking and memorizing things, especially songs. Kirstie had taught her to sing the "La las" in La La Latch. Kevin would slow dance with her while Avi would sing Standing By. But Scott and Mitch had the biggest influence on her. They were both loving and caring fathers. Mitch wondered if he would ever have the courage to ask Scott to marry him. They had been together for almost 10 years, and they were best friends!

While Mitch was deep in thought about Scott, Kirstie and Avi walked in the door. "Auntie K and Uncle Vi are here to see baby Rey!" Kirstie shouted excitedly about babysitting Regan. She hoped it would see if Avi would make a good father, and maybe get some alone time with him herself.

"Great you guys are here. Perfect. Let me go over some things with you Avi and I'll show you how to do bedtime, ok?" Mitch directed. He didn't want any reason to have to come home tonight.

"Yeah sure! Anything for Baby Rey!"

Kirstie walked in on Scott primping. "Mitch is one lucky guy. To think I almost had him."

Scott scuffed, "Oh the good old straight days." Scott reminisced back when Mitch wasn't true to himself. They would make out in the back of a movie theater two towns over until Mitch was true to himself. Tonight was the first date night since Regan came along. It was going to be so special.

Scott came out of his room with a high head and his shoulders back. He had put on only a little make up to cover up a few blemishes, but Mitch didn't mind. He was wearing black skinny jeans, the black printed shirt I had gotten him last Christmas, a black snap back, and his black high tops. He looked fabulous and Mitch felt bad for wearing a sweatshirt, so he went into his room and changed quickly. He put on skinny blue jeans, a white shirt, and his leather jacket. He looked almost like a greaser, but Scott wouldn't mind.

When Mitch stepped out of the room Scott looked at him the way he would if Beyoncé had stepped out of that room. He was in awe but he was admiring Mitch. Even baby Regan quieted down when looking at Mitch. "DADDY!" Regan said. Mitch's cheeks rose to a bright pink as he went over and hugged baby Regan in Kirstie's arms. He picked her out of Kirstie's arms and said to Regan, "Yes Regan. Forever and always I will be your daddy." Scott started to tear up and promptly said, "We should probably get going. It's getting a little dark."

"Yeah yeah we um probably should get going." Mitch said with his hands shaking. He was nervous. He hadn't been on a date with Scott for a long time.

They got to the fancy restaurant and immediately began to look at the menu. Everything was so luxurious and expensive, but so delicious. Scott ordered the steak, and Mitch ordered shrimp. Both of them were stuffed by the time they finished their 2 glasses of Chardonnay each. They both knew they wouldn't be driving home, so they picked a place close to home so they could walk back, but also a place near a hotel just in case they decided they'd like a night away.

Scott and Mitch took a walk under the lights of the 3rd Street Promenade. The dinosaurs with water coming out of their mouths made Scott laugh, which Mitch loved. He loved the sound of Scott's laugh. Whenever he would laugh, his chin would be so defined that it could cut butter. The laughter itself lit up the entire world, and made Mitch feel like nothing else mattered. That no one else was there. Mitch guided Scott over to the dinosaur and they both sat down on the bench next to it. It was perfect. There were stars and lights and the moon shone brighter than ever before. Mitch thought right now would be the perfect time. "Scott?" Mitch said.

"Yes Mitch?" Scott said looking down at his boyfriend with sparkles in his eyes.

            "I love you."

"I love you too." It was silent for a minute.

            "Scott?"

"Yes Mitch." Scott giggled. Scott looked around at the stores and the rare people that would pass by. Mitch slid off the bench and onto one knee.

"Will you-" Scott's phone rang with Kirstie's ring tone. He answered it absent-mindedly.

"Hello?" Scott said through the phone.

"Scott? It's Kirstie. There's been an emergency."
