Stan's POV:
I walk into school again. I wander through the halls until I find Kyle and Kenny. Kenny is trying to talk to Kyle, and he seems to be chatting with him pretty contently.
"Hey Kenny, Kyle." I greet them in turn.
"Hey, Stan." Kyle says, looking up at me.
"Yeah, hey dude. What's up, man?" Kenny asks, he probably sees the bruise on the side of my face and is being careful about what he's saying.
"Nothing much, just things going on with my parents." Stan says.
"Did you tell your mom about what's going on?" Kyle asks. "And, are you okay? What happened, tell us everything."
"Yeah, I texted my mom in class, but dad got to the school first. He slapped me across the face, and I told him mom was coming. He instantly went to look for her and found her. My mom was really pissed at him, and screamed at him. She brought me to her home. It's much better there. Dad isn't bothering us." I explain.
"That's great, I knew telling her would be better for you. Are you okay, though? You said he hit you."
"I'm okay, it doesn't hurt any more." I lie, even though it still stings like crazy. I don't want anyone to worry about me. It's been awful enough with leaving my dad. He is abusive, but I know he'll take it hard. I still worry about him.
"That's good, you know you can tell us both if anything goes wrong. We're here for you, y'know." Kyle says, as if he didn't believe me, but didn't want to accuse me of lying at the same time.
"Yeah, I'm glad to see you two on good terms again. Everything was so different since you two grew distant." Kenny says.
"Me too." Kyle smiles.
~X~
I walk into geometry. Everyone's sitting in different seats, and there's a new seating plan pinned onto the door. I check the plan and see that I'm sitting next to Kyle.
I take my seat, and see Kyle look happier now that I'm here. That might be a bit of an understatement, because Kyle smiles and has that little glint in his eye that appears when he's happy. I smile when I see my former best friend so elated.
"Hey, Dude!" Kyle greets.
"Hey, Kyle! How are things?"
"Alright, I guess. Apart from the fact that we have to sit through geometry." He says, picking up his pen and spinning it in his hand.
"Mhm. Geometry sucks ass." I agree.
"What other subjects do we have today?" Kyle asks.
"Social Studies, Economics, PE, and Art," I respond, having memorised my schedule, "all our classes before lunch suck ass to be honest."
Kyle groans. "Well, at least we can enjoy our afternoon," He says. "PE and Art are pretty good subjects."
"Agreed. Sometimes I wish I could escape the school." I say, drifting off into thought.
"We can." I look over at Kyle and see he's smirking at me. "Wanna get outta here?"
"Now?" I whisper. He nods back. "Sure." I grin.
"Okay, meet in the bathroom." Kyle whispers and puts his hand up.
"Yes, Kyle?" The teachers dry voice asks.
"Can I fill up my water bottle, please?"
"Of course, as long as you're quick."
I wait a minute or so before I put my hand up, so it doesn't look suspicious.
