The sound of knocking on the door stirred Kim Rok Soo from his pleasant dream. He blinked a few times before a frown etched itself onto his face as his eyes met the same overly extravagant white room that was far too lavish to be his.
'Fuck. It's not dream after all.'
His forehead throbbed as the knocking sound echoed in his ears again. He sighed, propping himself up to sit and leaning his back against the fluffy pillow.
Now that he'd had enough sleep, he couldn't feign ignorance any longer. He didn't know who the person behind the door was, but he couldn't let the people who worked closely with this bastard realize something was amiss. For now, he would need to act as this person—whose name he still didn't know—as naturally as possible until he decided what to do about this situation.
Fortunately, the voice in his head had graciously shown him the personality of this body's owner, though at the expense of his sanity.
Another knock, but this time he heard a voice. "My liege, are you awake?"
Rok Soo took a deep breath and finally answered, "Yes, enter."
What he saw almost made him flinch, but he managed to hold back. He had expected the person to be one of this man's subordinates, but he hadn't anticipated seeing someone in a priest's robe. The robe was black, and in one hand, the man carefully held a fan of the same color. He looked dignified, with a stern face. Kim Rok Soo could sense that this person wouldn't be easy to scam, so he focused intently, while trying to keep his body relaxed.
When their eyes met, the man smiled faintly before concealing the smile behind his fan. The voice in Kim Rok Soo’s head returned, sending a chill down his spine.
— Ah yes, my subordinate Gersey! I’m sure he’ll know something’s wrong, right? That damned lord has been messing with everything. He’ll definitely notice!
Kim Rok Soo froze but quickly acted as though nothing had happened. However, what Gersey said next left both him and the voice in his head speechless.
"Congratulations, my liege. I knew you would pass the test with ease. Now you are one step closer to your goal."
Gersey bowed his head, the smile never leaving his face, softening his usually stern expression.
— Huh?
Contrary to the bastard’s expectations, this priest—called Gersey—didn’t realize that his liege's body was now occupied by someone else. And judging by how the voice in his head referred to Gersey, it was clear that the lord this priest served was the one behind this mess.
But why? Why hadn’t that lord said anything? What exactly was their intention?
Although many thoughts raced through his mind, Kim Rok Soo played his role to fit into the larger scheme. He held his head high with arrogance, mimicking the overly confident tone of the voice in his head. “Nothing can hinder me. Who do you think I am?”
“Of course, my liege. You will be the one to rule this world. Everyone will be at your mercy.” Gersey bowed even lower before straightening and approaching the bed.
— What the hell, wHY??! How can you not know? I would never do that kind of dumb narration, and the test isn’t even passed yet! How come you can’t tell?!
'Well, maybe because you act exactly like that?'
Rok Soo tuned out the voice in his head just as he started cursing and questioning Gersey's loyalty. Right now, only one thing occupied his mind.
