"I have also received word from Redika and the squads sent to the Roan Kingdom. It seems they have succeeded in clearing the village near the dead mana source. The wood ancient power has been secured as well, and you may claim it whenever you wish, sir."
The voice echoed in Kim Rok Soo's head, and he fought to keep his jaw from dropping at the sheer whiplash he got from the sentence.
Clearing a village near what? What ancient power was there???
Even though he was stunned by the sudden info dump, the gears in his mind began piecing the information together as he forcefully swallowed the half-chewed food. He doubted he could savor its taste with yet another revelation unfolding in front of him. As the gears in his head finished turning, the realization dawned on him.
The squads sent to the Roan Kingdom.
Clearing a village.
Harris Village.
'...So it wasn't just for Choi Han's awakening....'
Of course, as he read the novel, he had wondered why the tragedy in Harris Village happened. Why would a terrorist organization target an outlying village that seemingly had nothing to offer? It didn't even make enough noise for the Henituse territory to notice; they needed Choi Han's report to know something had happened there.
This was in stark contrast to the organization's other movements, which involved sowing chaos in the Roan Kingdom through bombing incidents.
But even after the fifth volume, nothing had been revealed. This led Rok Soo to conclude that the incident in Harris Village was created solely to awaken Choi Han's own vision of justice. It was, after all, The Birth of a Hero.
But now that he was confronted with the real reason behind everything that had happened, a sense of reality dawned on him. There were reasons and causes for everything. It wasn't just a 'story plot' where you could blame the writer if there were 'plot holes.' This was real-not just a fictional novel-and he was inhabiting the body of a person who lived in this world.
However, there was a more pressing matter than that realization.
'I'm definitely screwed.'
Now it was confirmed that this bastard was the one behind the tragedy. There was no way Choi Han would let him live if he ever found out.
'If he ever know me, that's it.'
Rok Soo was now even more determined to never cross paths with the protagonist and his companions-not even in passing.
The clinking sound of his fork hitting the plate snapped his spiraling mind back to reality. He had been so focused on processing the new information in his head that the fork had slipped from his hand. But now he realized he should have responded to the skinny man's report. He wasn't sure how long the silence had stretched between them, but he was confident he had kept his expression in check, as he often did back on Earth.
He blinked a few times before setting the cutlery aside, moving smoothly as if nothing had happened.
"Alright, I have heard your report. Is that all?"
When Rok Soo glanced at the man, his gaze was still fixed firmly on the floor. He sighed inwardly. It seemed he hadn't been caught acting strange by the man.
"That is all, sir."
"You may leave now."
The skinny man nodded and bowed. He hesitated for a moment before gathering the courage to ask, "Would you like me to call some servants to change your clothes?"
