<!> 3| Yet Ephemeral the Body Is
<!> (contains gore / indicators will be provided stating when it begins and ends)

Kai deliberated again before he cautiously began making his way down the alley, taking small stops to hide behind the objects strewn about.

After hiding behind a dumpster, his eyes widened. It wasn't an alley but a dead end.

Kai frantically looked around the alleyway that seemed suspended, draped in dense air

Kai frantically looked around the alleyway that seemed suspended, draped in dense air.

Nothing escaped his gaze. He scoured the cracked walls, the overgrown vines, the shattered window and pots, the tipped over trash can. But there was nothing.

He suddenly realized.

He spun around.

But there was nothing.

He sighed in relief when a smell exploded into his nose. The crude, unmistakable smell of blood.

Then, he felt something brush against his shoes. From beneath the dumpster a red pool unfurled as it began enveloping his foot.

Shit! He lifted his leg, but the pool was almost alive. It relentlessly stuck to his foot, struggling as it tried to pull him back into its grasp.

He swallowed as he looked around. That's when he saw it.

GORE BEGINS (again the gore isn't too graphic. but if one wants to skip it, there's a note where it ends)

Behind the dumpster, a corpse laid.

Whoever killed them enjoyed it.

Blood messily painted the walls, dripping down onto the floor that sucked it up voraciously. The chest was ripped open and small strands of flesh were strewn about like small garlic shavings. The insides were left to fester, attracting maggots. The proactive ones already began wiggling their way inside where they swam about in the pale-yellow oozing mixture. The intestines were also cut, letting the bowels seep out, staining the air with the distinct smell of feces.

The head was mutilated beyond recognition. The eye sockets were empty. Instead, the eyes gushed on the floor, spilling their mucus. They were like runny eggs and flies were already buzzing around, desperate to dine on the delicacy of it all. Brown vomit smeared the area around the mouth; some of the larger bits were dripping down.

Drawn in blood laid a pleasant leaf. Beside it, a knife stained scarlet red.

In cynical contrast, a vibrant lotus adorned the knife's handle.

Taking a step back, he tripped on a vine. That's when he noticed a message on the wall, written in fresh blood, "Stay lucky."

What the fuck. Kai gagged. He couldn't breathe, with every inhale the smell invaded him. Its crudeness coerced him, nauseating him and persuading him to join it. He felt his body flare up in a warm unpleasant sensation. He slowly backed out of the alley before he sprinted back to the restaurant.
