The maze

When I woke up in the box, it was when it was opening. I had no time to process anything. There were already two boys blocking the sun, looking down at me.

I squinted my eyes, and tried to calm my breathing. I was on my butt, propped up by my elbow.

"It seems it's gonna be a regular thing then."

"Yeah, but do you reckon it'll always be a mixture of boys and girls?"

One of the shadows shrugs, and kneels down. I moved backwards, not knowing how this was going to go. There was a blond and brunette.

The blond leaned forward, and when we made eye contact, something in me settled.

That feeling scared me more than anything, and I couldn't breathe. Things started going fuzzy. I couldn't remember my name. Nothing made sense anymore.

Before a minute could pass, everything went dark.

The second time I woke up, I was in some sort of cot. It was a small room, and it was clear that it was going to be part of some bigger plan. It just wasn't completed yet.

The two boys were next to me, but only one was looking at me. He was dark, much darker than the other one, and he was staring at me.

"She's awake."

This alerted the blond, who turned, saw me, and abruptly left the room. My eyes tracked him as he did, and the minute he left, my shoulders relaxed.

The one still left, the one was still looking at me, moved to the bed, and sat next to me. I didn't know this boy, yet I wasn't afraid.

He was around the same age as me, whatever age that was. I could trust him.

"Where am I?"

"We call it the Glade. It's the best term we could come up with. I reckon you don't know your name yet?"

"Yet? I'll remember it soon?"

He nods.

"That seems to be the theme. Although, you're the first girl here."

I didn't know what here was exactly, but I got the sense it had something to do with what i came up in, and why we didn't just leave.

"How many others are here?"

"Just me and Newt. The other guy you saw. He isn't much of a people person."

I nod, glad that I am understanding most of this.

"Well, it must be hard to, considering it's just you two here."

"Us, now," he corrects me.

I breathe, just focusing on taking the minute he is clearly giving me, and think. This was all absolutely crazy. But if this is what we had, we couldn't freak out. We had to keep moving.

"You're taking this very well. I hate to have to break that and show you the maze."
