You let out a sleepy yawn, snuggling deeper into the cozy embrace of your blanket as you stretch lazily in bed. The relief of not having to worry about school washes over you, thanks to a well-deserved break. You had slept late last night, binge watching a kdrama you found on Netflix.
Staring quietly at your ceiling, you notice a faint melody coming from your door. You slowly sit up confused. Crawling out of bed and making your way towards the source, you crack open your bedroom door to reveal the gentle strains of Christmas music wafting from the living room. A smile dances across your face, grateful for the unexpected holiday serenade that has greeted your morning.
You grab your phone from the bed and make your way to the kitchen, where the melodic tunes seem to grow louder. There, you find your mother joyfully singing along, her voice carrying a cute Korean accent. The sight warms your heart, prompting you to capture a fleeting moment of her cheerful performance. Swiftly, you swipe right on your camera and record a precious ten-second clip, unable to contain your giggles.
Teasingly, you remark, "Looks like someone's quite excited for Christmas."
Your mother turns her head towards you, a smile spreading across her face. "It only comes around once a year, and I'm truly hoping we can spend it together as a family this time."
Your smile wavers slightly, a tinge of disappointment creeping in. "Did they call you in for that day?"
"I'm not sure yet," she replies, her answer tinged with uncertainty.
Quietly nodding, you express your understanding, albeit with a hint of longing. "I'll be in my room if you need me."
You throw your body into the warm fuzzy blanket. Pulling out your phone, you check if there's any new messages.
