Lunchtime had arrived, and Keigo found himself searching for his sister, Alex, in the bustling cafeteria. His responsibilities as Vice President of the Student Council kept him busy, but he always made it a point to check up on her during their breaks. Today was no exception; he wanted to ensure she was safe and well, especially after their brief encounter in her classroom earlier.
As he navigated the sea of students, he couldn't shake the eerie feeling that had washed over him earlier that morning on the stairs. Time seemed to slow down as he scanned the crowd, his eyes narrowing in on a figure with jet-black hair, the same person he had noticed earlier. However, the individual's back was turned towards Keigo, concealing their identity.
Determined to get a closer look, Keigo began weaving through the lunchtime throng. But just as he was about to approach the mysterious person, he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder, causing him to startle and spin around.
"Kei, are you okay?" It was a voice he recognized, a voice filled with concern. "I called your name three times."
It was Rumi. Her warm brown eyes met his, and her concern deepened as she assessed his puzzled expression. Keigo took a moment to compose himself before he replied, "Sorry, Rumi, I was just... lost in thought. What's up?"
Rumi released her grip on his shoulder but kept her gaze fixed on him, clearly not convinced by his response. "Are you sure you're okay? You seemed distracted, and you were heading straight for... well, I don't know who, but you looked like you were on a mission."
Keigo sighed, realizing he might have been a little too obvious in his pursuit. He didn't want to worry Rumi unnecessarily, so he decided to share his thoughts with her. "I saw someone earlier today, in the morning, on the stairs. It was... strange, like a déjà vu feeling. And now, I thought I saw the same person here in the cafeteria."
Rumi furrowed her brow in concern, her curiosity piqued. "Who was it? Do you think they're causing trouble or something?"
"I don't know," Keigo admitted, frustration creeping into his voice. "I couldn't see their face either time, just the jet-black hair. And when I was about to approach them, you called me."
Rumi glanced around the cafeteria, but the person with black hair seemed to have disappeared into the crowd. She turned her attention back to Keigo. "Well, if you ever spot them again, let me know. We can check it out together. For now, though, you have that Student Council meeting to attend, right?"
Keigo nodded, grateful for Rumi's understanding. "You're right. I need to go. Thanks, Rumi. I appreciate it."
With a reassuring smile, Rumi patted his shoulder. "No problem, Kei. Just remember, we're a team. Now go, Vice President, and show 'em who's boss in that meeting!"
As Keigo made his way to the Student Council meeting, he couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for having friends like Rumi by his side. He was determined to focus on his duties and address any concerns he might have later. For now, the mysteries of the black-haired figure would have to wait.
