Chapter One

She shouldn’t do this. She knew she shouldn’t do this. It would lead to nothing more than pain in her heart. But she did anyway and it brought waves of pain and anger to her heart. It wasn’t his fault, he couldn’t have known. But it still hurt to know that he married someone who he thought was her.

Allison Grey couldn’t help the bitter taste that came to her mouth when her sister’s name came to her mind. Her sister had done many wrong things that caused Allison the things she treasured. And Allison had always forgiven her. But not this time, for this wrong act cost Allison the man she loved most that anything else in the world.

How could her sister do that? Ely Grey was a sweet girl, but she changed when they reached high school. The twin sister who always had her back was long gone. Replaced, by a girl who would do anything, even if it meant hurting other people, to get what she wanted.

Pax Michaels was supposed to be Allison’s. He proposed to her and she said yes immediately. But then Ely had to go on and ruined it. She had taken Allison’s identity as Pax Michael’s wife. Allison knew Ely only did it for Pax’s reputation as a son of the famous multi-billionaire Jensen Michaels and his money. Would Pax even notice? Because the money and the fame wouldn’t matter for Allison as long as Pax loved her.

Her eyes landed on the picture once again. The picture brought so many beautiful memories to Allison. It showed Pax and Allison on their first date. They were at the amusement park and he had his arms around her torso and his chin on top of her head. It was their official first date together. Although they had gone on so many dates before, Allison liked to think that particular date was their first.

Then her eyes drifted on the next picture. This one showed her and Ely. Allison knew that Pax would never notice the difference between Allison and Ely. They looked so identical together. Nothing was different except for the way they acted and the scar Allison had at the base of her ring finger. But the scar could be covered by the ring and Ely was an incredible actress.

Allison felt hatred boiling for her sister every time her face came to the news. She was such an attention hog. But then the hatred was always followed by a stabbing pain because Allison would see the wedding ring Ely was wearing, the wedding ring that was supposed to be Allison’s.

“Ally, time for dinner.”

Allison wiped every trace of her crying and changed her pajamas to shorts and a tank top. At least she had to try to be strong for her mother. She would hate to see her daughter cry.

Pax Michaels felt frustrated. His wife’s whining had hurt his ears to the point where he could just go deaf. Every day was the same. Allison would want something, and he would have to get it for her. He didn’t know why, he just had to. She was his wife and he had to be a husband she wanted.

She acted so differently in their marriage life. She was so much better when they were still dating. It made Pax wanted to take back his proposal and just be her boyfriend until the day they died.

Pax ran a hand through his tired face and pressed the bridge of his nose. She had changed so much. She wasn’t caring and loving towards children anymore like she used to. She wasn’t as humble and she hardly kissed him. Pax felt his love for her disappeared day by day, and he was afraid that it’ll disappear completely and leave him alone for good. She was the best thing that ever happened to him.

His eyes wandered around his bedroom until it reached the picture on the nightstand. It was the picture of them on their first date. They looked so happy. Pax admitted that he was a player in high school, where he met Ally. But she changed him for the better and he loved how she could change him. No other woman came and stuck to his mind like Allison Grey did. But now it was like he knew two different Allison in his life.

The one when they were dating and the one in their marriage life. Honestly, he liked the Allison when they were dating better. A lot better. Sometimes, it made him feel like Allison’s been acting the whole time they were dating and was showing her true nature now. It made him sad that she was only acting and she wasn’t the woman that he thought she was.

He tried, he really tried. But after the vacation with Allison’s mom and sister, Ely, he would have to go get the divorce papers and Allison Grey would no longer set foot in his life. It pained him, but it needed to be done. Allison wasn’t the one for him, and she’ll be better off without him.

“Pax, we’re going to be late.” Her shrill voice called out, making him cringe.

Just a few weeks and then it’ll all be over.

Dinner was amazing for Allison. Her mother, Lucia, rambled on about her work and day and how the neighbor had a crazy new dog Allison should see. Her mother’s day sounded like heaven to Allison’s ears. If someone else had heard Allison’s mother talk about her day, they would think that there was nothing exciting about it. But to Allison, her mother’s day couldn’t be more exciting, a day where she could just relax without pain and heartbreak. Yeah that sounded nice. But when she saw how happy her mother was now, it was enough to make her day.

Her mother rarely smiled ever since Allison’s father, Mark, died and Ely stole Allison’s identity as Pax’s wife. So it meant a lot to Allison to see her mother so happy and excited.

“Allison, are you okay?” her mother said softly in an Italian accent.

Her mother was Italian. She had gotten her last name from Allison’s father when they got married. Before he died, her father had insisted wife to learn English. But she had refused. She taught Allison Italian instead. But ever since Mark died, Lucia had been studying hard to learn English. Lucia spoke fluent English, even though she sometimes slipped into Italian.

“I’m fine mom.”

“Is it them?”

Her mother always knew what was wrong with her. Allison nodded as she stared at her plate of food. Allison heard her mother sigh and looked up to find her staring at Allison sadly.

“I have something to tell you, Cara.” Lucia said, using Italian for the last word. She only did that if she was nervous.

“What is it, mom?”

Lucia pursed her lips and took Allison’s hand. “Your sister is coming for a visit.”
