Chapter Four
Pax felt the pain that pierced his heart when he heard the man, Garret, said the name Allison to a girl that he thought was Ely. Of course the girl who was by his side wasn’t the one for him. She wasn’t Allison, she was Ely. That’s why he always felt like he was betraying somebody whenever he touched her. He always felt longing. But he didn’t know what he was longing for. Now he knew. He was longing for Allison.
The feel of her hand inside his now, calmed his nerves. They finally stopped at the garden Lucia had created. It had a fountain at the center and grape vines curling around the wooden stakes. Lucia had once told him, that it always reminded her of her home in Italy.
“Tell me everything, Allison.” Pax said as he tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear.
“It happened two days before the wedding.” Allison started. “I was cooking for mom when Ely came in. she said she needed help and I turned my back for one second to turn off the stove, she knocked me out. When I woke up, I saw the TV, and the news said that you already got married. I was heartbroken, and I blamed Ely. I tried to go to your house and explain but your stupid bodyguards kicked me out. I tried for two weeks, but the result was always the same. I just gave up, I guess.”
The whole time she was speaking, Pax held her hands. The girl in front of him was the one he loved. He should’ve known that it wasn’t Allison that was next to him for the last three months. How could he be so unbelievably stupid to think that Allison would ever change from who she is?
“Is that why you’re scared of her?”
Allison nodded as tears started to blur her eyes. Pax drew her close and held her. “I’m so sorry, Ally. I didn’t know, but I should’ve. Don’t be scared of her, alright? I’m here.”
“I love you, Pax.”
Pax felt the joy that came to his heart when she said that. “I love you too, Ally.”
Finally, after so long, he finally kissed her like he always wanted to. He missed her kisses and her touch, he missed her.

“How long have we been here?” Allison asked, looking up to look into his eyes.
They were sitting down on the cool grass. Allison was leaning into him with her head on his shoulder. His arms were wrapped around her torso and everything was peaceful.
“I don’t know, about two hours.” Pax said. He didn’t care how long they’ve been outside, as long as Allison was there with him. “I don’t really care.”
Allison laughed the laugh that he’d been dying to hear. “My mom would be worried.”
“She knows that you’re with me.” Pax said as he kissed her temple.
Allison opened her mouth to say more words, but an ear deafening shriek came from the gate of the garden. “What the hell are you two doing?”
Ely stood there, her face red from anger, with her hands on her hips. Only now did Pax realize what a wonderful actress she was. He’d have to give her credit for fooling him for the past three months.
“You’re cheating on me, with my sister!”
Allison scowled. “A little over dramatic don’t you think, Ely?”
Ely rolled her eyes and stood in front of them. “You’re tricking him again!” this time, she turned to face Pax, her eyes begging. “You believe me, don’t you Pax?”
Pax held Allison’s waist and pulled her closer to him. “I know who you are, there’s no more need to pretend that you’re Allison.”
Ely’s begging smile disappeared from her face, replaced by a smile that looked cruel, too cruel, even for Ely. “I never thought you as someone who would take some other woman’s husband, sister.”
“He is not yours!” Allison said through gritted teeth. “And you are not my sister.”
Ely pressed a hand to her heart. “Ouch, you hurt me. So now that you’re together, what are you going to do next?”
Allison didn’t know who the woman standing in front of her was now. She wasn’t her sister, for sure. She was no longer the girl who used to sit under the tree having lunch with Allison. She was the girl that would do anything to ensure that her twin sister would never be happy.
“Why do hate me so much?” Allison asked, and she could see that Ely didn’t expect that.
Ely scowled, and for a minute, Allison didn’t think that she would answer her. But she did, “Because you always get everything!”
“What?”
Ely laughed a miserable laugh. “Don’t play dumb. You always get everything, everybody loved you. You were everyone’s favorite, and they would always choose you over me. You were the teachers’ favorite, mom’s favorite, dad’s favorite. Even my best friend ditched me to be friends with you.”
Allison stayed silent the whole time Ely yelled at her. She didn’t even know that the girl who became friends with her when she was fourteen used to be Ely’s best friend. Allison would always question her on how Ely hated her, but she brushed it off every time.
“And then him,” Ely continued. “I thought that when he dated you, he would dump you like he did with every girl. Do you know that I used to date him?”
For the first time in her life, Allison saw Ely cry. Ely never cried real tears before this. She needed to console her and comfort her. Pax gave her an encouraging nod.
“Ely, everybody loved you too. Dad’s always trying to get you to come with us. Mom wanted the best for you. Your friend always talks about you. They loved you too, you have to know that.”
Ely shook her head and looked at her with a glare. “There’s nothing you say that can fix this.” She said as she turned to run away.
Pax saw how disappointed Allison looked. He wrapped his arms around her. “You did everything you could, Ally.”
Allison nodded and found comfort in her husband’s arms. She’ll get through this, as long as she had Pax, she’ll be fine.
