Changjin - surrender

p.o.v. no one

The setting was simple. A stage and 8 microphones on it. The crowd was silent. The whole stage only lit up by the moonlight. Soft music started playing and from the speakers an angelic voice started singing.

we let the waters rise
we drifted to survive

The lights revealed a person standing on the microphone on the left. His head still held low, but everyone knew it was Seungmin who was singing.

I needed you to stay,
but I let you drift away.

A different voice echoed through the stadium. A person on the right was revealed. Head held high and tears forming in their eyes. Chan was standing in all his glory, yet he seemed so broken.

My love, where are you?
My love, where are you?

Yet another voice rang through the speakers. In the left middle was standing Changbin, tears streaming down his face, yet his voice so strong. Stays were confused. Who were they talking about?

Whenever you're ready,

Two voice sang together. Seungmin and Chan. Both looking to the middle now. If you'd see it clearly, you would know they looked at Changbin. But you couldn't see.

Can we, can we surrender?
Can we, can we surrender?

The deep voice of Felix echoed through the stadium as the light revealed him next to Changbin, one space left between him and Seungmin. He too, had tears on his cheeks and in his eyes. His gaze purely fixed on Changbin, who was also looking at him.

I surrender.

Both, Changbin and Felix sang together, creating a perfect harmony. Stays were crying too by now. Everyone felt something was completely wrong. They just couldn't pinpoint it.

No one will win this time,
I just want you back.

The soft voice of Jisung was heard as he was revealed next to Chan. He too, had tears in his eyes, as he looked at Stays, then over to Changbin, who still looked at Felix.

I'm running to your side,
flying my white flag, my white flag

Lee Knows voice echoed through the stadium. He was reavealed next to Jisung. His voice filled with sorrow as he looked at Jisung. You could see he was searching for something in Jisungs eyes.

My love, where are you?

Changbins voice reappeared. His eyes looking over the crowd once, then one by one looking at the revealed members.

Whenever you're ready,

Jeongins voice appeared, just like he himself, between Felix and Seungmin. He held his head low, just like Seungmin.

Jeongin and Jisung sang together. Their voice matching perfectly, yet no one could deny the sorrow visible in their voices.

Can we, can we surrender?

Chan and Lee Know sang together. Now all of the members looking at Changbin and Felix. Even Jeongin and Seungmin looking up, revealing their tearstained faces.

I surrender.
Ooh-ooh-oh, oh-oh
I surrender.

Both of them sang as they looked into each others eyes, then to the still dark space next to Changbin. All hell broke loose as the last tune of the song played and still Hyunjin hadn't appeared.
Stays were confused yet they knew.

It was then that Changbin and Felix fell to their knees, hugging each other. Jisung clinging to Lee Know and Seungmin desperatly tried holding Jeongin, while thick tears rolled down everyones faces.

Then Chan spoke up.
"Last week, the day we landed here, a terrible accident happened. It was no ones fault. We were on our way to explore the city, when a driver lost control over his car. The breakes got cut and he couldn't do anything about it anymore. He crashed into someone. Hyunjin got hit by the car with no chance to survive. His last wish was for Stays to be happy and us to perform tonight for you, in his name. Hwang Hyunjin, you are still with us, watching us from a place we cannot follow yet. Please wait for us. We love you, fly high! Rest in peace.", Chan spoke while tears streamed down his face.
Stays were in shock to say the least. Some were crying, some where in disbelieve while others seemed like their whole world just fell apart.
Then a murmur started, everyone started holding up a light and together, all Stay started singing the song from before again. Wishing Straykids the best and hoping Hyunjin could rest in peace.
Straykids cried and for the flash of a second you could see the see through body of Hyunjin hugging Changbin.

Cause what no one knew was, that Changbin and Hyunjin were a couple and planned on secretly marrying each other the month after their tour. The ring on a chain around his neck, close to his heart, Changbin never took it off.
It was all he still had, his ring, Straykids, Stays and memories.
"Please be safe Hyunjin. Be safe and wait for me.", Changbin whispered as he hugged Felix closer.
