The Ultimate Researcher (Danganronpa2 x Oc!)

The Introductions

"Hey..." Nagito crouched over the boy, waving a hand in his face while Yumiko shot worried glances his way. How could he have just...collapsed like that? Was he okay? She looked around at the empty beach, the sand disturbed by all the footsteps herded off in different directions. The others had dispersed not long after, deciding to explore the island while Yumiko attended to the boy. She didn't understand how the Ultimate Nurse couldn't attend to him, too. She was much better equipped in this field than her. But alas, the Ultimate Nurse had long since gone somewhere off the island, leaving her alone to recite all the facts she knew about treating an unconscious person.

"Is he breathing?" She asked, crouching next to Nagito.

"Yeah, I think so..."

"Good. Elevate his head a little..." Noting his quizzical look, she added. "Tilt his head back and lift his chin. It keeps his airway open." Nagito smiled, and then did as she had instructed, prompting Yumiko to give him a thumbs up. She didn't know why she had done that. She hadn't known him for even a day.

"And uh...how do you know this? That was...pretty impressive." ...impressive. Yumiko's cheeks flushed in embarrassment.

"I haven't fully introduced myself, have I?" She asked. "Well, you already know my name. I'm...the Ultimate Researcher."

"Ah, that explains how you knew that information." He waved a hand in front of the boy's face again. "Can you hear me...?" Slowly, the boy regained consciousness, his eyelids fluttering until he opened them completely.

"Are you alright?" Yumiko asked. "You...collapsed. You seem pretty out of it." Beside her Nagito chuckled, earning a sharp look from Yumiko that said: This situation is not funny. He simply smiled at her.

"Honestly, I'm pretty out of it as well. No...everyone feels the same, too." So he's just trying to reassure him...Yumiko thought, face heating up once more at that realization. I had...a bit of an over the top reaction.

"I agree...since we were all gathered and put into this...strange predicament." When the boy didn't respond, Nagito added,

"Hey, are you even listening?" Yumiko's mind raced to find the correct information on what to do if an unconscious person wasn't responsive. The right thing to do would be to call an ambulance, but she was unable to do that in this situation. Or...she could...find the Ultimate Nurse so that they could take care of the boy. But...where would she find her? The answer was on the tip of her tongue before the boy started to get up.

"C-careful," She warned him. "Did you hit your head somehow? Or did you simply faint from shock? You need to be careful how you proceed, alright? I don't want you getting injured. If we can find the Ultimate Nurse, maybe she can take a look at you just to make sure you're not seriously injured or anything..."

"I'm fine," The boy replied. Yumiko breathed a sigh of relief. At least he was responsive now.

"Hey, are you sure you're okay?" Nagito asked, just to make sure. Yumiko stood up, dusting the sand off her skirt. The boy glared at him with his dull colored green eyes.

"Leave me alone," He said simply, frowning. Yumiko was about to retort back, but remembered the situation they were in. They were trapped on some island and unable to escape, it was natural to be grouchy or upset at that scenario. But still, she wouldn't stand for his rudeness towards Nagito. Afterall, they were only trying to help.

"That's no way to speak to someone," She admonished, crossing her arms and scowling. "I suggest you apologize."

"N-no, it's alright, and there's no way I can leave someone alone when they look that pale..." Nagito added. The boy remained silent, eyes set on their surroundings, taking in the white sandy beach and crystal blue ocean. A perfect paradise, and quite possibly Yumiko's worst nightmare. She felt guilty for her harsh reaction now. This was...a traumatizing event. She should've realized that sooner.
