REAL LIFE! — 🍓
the hour long ice skating session that chris had booked for him and annie was finally over, and, surprisingly, annie was exhausted; she never would've thought pushing yourself around an ice rink could be so tiring, but here she was, sweat building on her upper lip as she stumbled off the ice, and onto the padded floor on the outskirts of the rink.
her eyes drifted over to chris, who had been strangely quiet for most of the session once annie had got the hang of the whole ice skating thing, his hands that had once traced her waist an hour ago now hanging limply by his side, the ghost of a frown hovering over his features.
god knows why he was sulking, and his downcast lips provoked an eye roll from annie, who forcefully moved past him in some form of retaliation, hoping to create a rise out of him as she sat down on a nearby bench with a sigh.
still, despite him now sitting down next to her, his previous silence remained, wordlessly removing both of his skates with a furrowed brow. annie, on the other hand was still staring at him, and only because she was so confused as to why his mood had shifted so suddenly.
not even an hour ago, her and chris were skating around, the widest, most genuine smile painted onto his face, hands on her waist, his eyes void of that smug glint they usually held. and now, now he couldn't even look her way. like any normal human being, annie couldn't help but wonder if she'd done anything wrong.
was she the reason his eyes hadn't moved upwards in the past few minutes? had she upset him? annie chewed her bottom lip, deep in thought, completely forgetting about the reason she'd sat down on the bench in the first place: to take off her ice skates. they remained on her feet, the melted ice dripping onto the floor beneath her, creating a small puddle.
her feet were getting cold, but annie didn't mind. she'd curated yet another question, and this one was probably the most important one of all — why did she care? this time last week annie would've been celebrating his lack of words, and now she found herself wondering what she'd done wrong? why?
maybe it was because the time they'd been spending together recently had felt, well, different. annie, as already established, was starting to feel much more comfortable in chris' presence, with her finding that she did actually want to spend time with him, and whilst her cold stares and eye rolls projected otherwise, she'd had a great time today. that was until chris had stopped talking, of course.
this was all very weird, and new, because annie was still drilling her hatred for chris into her brain, making it somewhat impossible to feel anything else for him. but here she was, void of this so-called hatred, and instead finding other feelings whenever she was around him.
of course she'd manage to fall for the player of the school, who couldn't keep a girlfriend for more than two weeks in the period after her breakup. of fucking course! the universe just loved evangeline wickes, and it was really showing right now.
