It's the first day of school after the summer holidays, Smoothing down my blue pleaded skirt, I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. You are safe here. I mentally chanted. I've been in this ongoing battle with myself since my dad gained full custody of me and my sister.
My mother was an alcoholic, she was never prone to physically abusing me and my sister but my brother had it worse. Ever since the divorce, she'd sworn off men. My younger brother, Sean being the spitting image of the man who left her for his 'one true love' basketball caused her to go off the deep end, Taking my brother with her. In a literal sense.
When my father gained full custody he moved us to the opposite side of town, slapped a couple of prep school uniforms on us, and threw us Upon North Hill Academy.
He claims my mother's first mistake was enrolling us in the Northview Community School, According to my father Coach Cameron, sacrifices babies to Satan and performs blood magic in his spare time. And he's not entirely wrong. The NCS kids would be writing my name in most blood sacrifices if they knew I was attending NHA, aka, THE ENEMY.
NCS and NHA have been rivals for years on end, and my father just so happens to be the Director of sports at NHA and Head Coach of their basketball team, so evidently my sister and I took the brunt of whatever Samantha Wiley and her minions felt like executing that day when attending NCS. Let's just say NCS wasn't all it was cut out to be.
My long, blonde hair was pushed back from my face with a navy blue claw clip. Exhaling a frustrated sigh, I did a turn to make sure my skirt wasn't stuck in my underwear- or something equally as embarrassing. NHA was completely different from NCS, for one the uniforms were mandatory. White button-down pleaded blue skirt, and a blue tie to match. Blue and White.
"Want to hit?" a blonde surrounded by a puff of white cloud asked. "You new? I don't recognize you."Two cheerleaders were coughing behind her. "Yea, I'm Veronica" I spurred. "V Grant?" she asked, raising a brow. Okay, now how does she know THAT?
"I'm Lizzie Fike, Principal's daughter" Crossing her hands over her chest she continued. Lizzie oozed a lazy sort of confidence with her long blonde hair, and makeup-free face, emphasizing those big blue eyes of hers. "My father told me some new girls would be attending, just wanted to say if you need someone to sit with or anything I'll be honored to fill the space." And with that, she left the bathroom.
"Okay! You can come in now" Victoria squealed, whilst unlocking her bathroom stall to let me in. Thankful for the distraction, I quickly stepped into the stall.
"How does it look?" she squealed again, Waggling her brows at me, As she did this adorable happy dance spinning around so I could get a good look. Stopping to take a look at the bathroom sink, Which looked like a full-on murder scene. With red hair dye etched all over the sink, floor, and bathroom walls. My gaze flicked back to the biggest smile I'd seen in a while, and I had no choice but to cave. "It looks amazing, Tori"
Victoria, My extremely indecisive identical twin sister whose personality was larger than life decided It would be an amazing idea to dye her hair red the day before school, she ended up not feeling it so here she is washing the fake dye out in the bathroom.
"I know, I wasn't looking forward to being called a used tampon," she muttered as she slumped underneath the hand dryer with her hair already wrapped in red rollers. "It looks cute though, don't worry." I'm nodding in agreement before adding, "Hey..."I drawled out. "Do you know if Dad's making the announcement today?"
"No, but he's picking you." she huffs, poking her hair to see if it's dry. "But, apparently a 'Tiffany Vega' put in an application this morning." My dad being the Director of sports at NHA has its perks. He treats this school like it's his fourth child, so when I asked him about being the basketball team's manager he shed a tear. But when someone with experience around the school and connections also puts in an application... It knocked my confidence back a few pegs.
