I opened my eyes to the stun of the bright, piercing sun. I let out a sigh as I got up off my bed and walked to the bathroom; trying to avoid treading on Kiren whom was still sleeping peacefully on his side on my fluro pink sleeping bag.
As I made my way out of my bathroom, 20 minutes later, showered changed, hair and teeth brushed; I looked up and saw Kiren still asleep. Man, this kid could sleep through World War 3 and not know it.
Surprisingly enough, we hadn’t talked much last night as I was overly tired to do anything other than sleep. Kiren didn’t mind as he didn’t ask any questions and went with it all.
So here I was, change in pocket, on my way over to the cafeteria. I kept my head down as it was just natural instinct because of the recent turn in events in my life.
‘Hey, you’re Avery right? The chick who got kidnapped by that freak?’ asked an unfamiliar but a very high pitched and unusually happy voice. I lifted my head up and looked to my right where a mid-height, pretty blonde with bright blue eyes who was hurrying to keep up with me. As I reached the cafeteria I stopped and turned towards her where she was eagerly awaiting my response ‘Yeah I’m Avery…’ is all I said as i ordered the usual and sat at the tables.
‘Oh, I am so sorry to hear what happened. Are you OK? And I’m Meghann by the way!’ she said enthusiastically as her blabber was the only form of entertainment available to me right now that would distract my gruesome memory. I noticed that Meghann was very bubbly and seemed like a cheerful person.
She was constantly fidgeting with something as her eyes wondered around everywhere. ‘Thanks… I guess I am as OK as I can be.’ Is all I said as I opened my Diet Coke can and vigorously sipped it. ‘Oh… I’m new here! I got in a couple of days ago…’ she said with a smile as she handed me her timetable. I gave her a confused expression as I wondered why she carried it around with her on a weekend. I looked it over ‘Seems as though you are in all my classes…’ I said. This reminded me a little too much of Corbin and hit a little too close to home. ‘Do you want to be friends?’ Meghann asked eagerly. I scrunched my eyebrows together as I realized just how upfront this girl was… but I didn’t mind, she seemed as though she was a genuinely nice person.
‘Um, sure… I guess.’ I said.
‘You don’t seem much happy about it… it’s not every day you make a new best friend. But I guess considering the circumstances…’ she said flatly, trying to not show her perkiness.
I ripped my gaze from my Salt and Vinegar chips to look at my new supposed best friend. ‘Yeah the circumstances…’ I said, matching her tone before I continued ‘And I kind of already have a best friend… sorry.’
‘Oh, oh who is she?’ she asked, already hyped up.
‘Hey Avery and… oh my god Meghann!’
‘Speaking of the devil…’ I said with a smirk.
‘Oh my god, you’re Avery’s best friend? Nice to see you again Kiren. Didn’t know you went to this school!’ she said cheerfully.
‘You two… know each other?’ I asked hesitantly.
They both looked at me as though they were realizing me for the first time. ‘Oh… yeah. Meghann was at the hospital when… you know and I bumped into her a couple of times. Sorry I didn’t tell her about you or the reason I was there… didn’t really want to spread my horrid mood. She kept me compony when I was in the hospitals cafeteria sometimes…’ he said as he looked over to her and gave her a smile. ‘Oh… so that’s why you were at the hospital! Gosh… I’m sorry.’ She said as she shrugged it off and stole one of my chips. I gave her a mean look as she stuck her tongue out at me, which also had some bits of the chip on it. Ew.
