I drifted in and out of consciousness. But suddenly I started to hear murmurs, louder than all the times before. Why couldn’t the world just leave me in peace? I’d rather be surrounded by my own dreams then back in the cruelness of the world where the slightest of things can break me.
‘Look, I don’t know when she’s going to wake up. She’s been like this for 2 days now; she’s stable but we just can’t seem to wake her up. It’s like she’s stuck in between consciousness and unconsciousness. Just be patient, when Avery wants to wake up, she will. In the meantime I’m sure she’s been fine in her own little world.’ Spoke a soft, distant voice. But I heard no reply.
Wait, Avery? Like me, Avery? Worse yet, 2 days? Am I sure I’m hearing things right? It can’t be Wednesday! That’s not how things work.
My curiosity got the better of me as I started to open my eyes; but only managed to see blurs. I was surrounded by whiteness. Was I in Heaven or… was it hell?
‘Avery? Avery! Oh dear god Avery! Nurse she’s awake!’ sounded a familiar voice.
‘Kiren?’ I said weakly.
‘No, no it’s Cole… err Mr Ford. How are you? Are you OK?’ he said anxiously.
Why was he here and not Kiren? More importantly, what was Mr Ford doing here?
‘Where, where’s Kiren? And, and what are you doing here?’ I asked, still sounding weak.
‘Avery! I’m right here, it’s OK. And Cole-‘
‘Mr Ford, Kiren…’ Mr Ford interrupted.
‘Oh sorry, Mr Ford is here because he’s the one that found you by the benches on Monday. He carried you all the way here! He’s seriously amazing! You’re lucky he found you…’ Kiren said.
Wait, Mr Ford carried me here? And I had to be unconscious for it?
I looked over at him as he gave me a small smile. ‘Well as long as you’re OK now…’
‘Thankyou’ is all I said as we held eye contact until Kiren cleared his throat.
‘Look sorry to interrupt, interrupting whatever I was interrupting but…’ he said as an annoyed expression fell onto Mr Ford’s face.
‘But…’ me and Mr Ford said simultaneously as the nurse came through the door and interrupted.
‘Avery, oh thank god. I was getting worried. Now how do you feel?’ asked the overly tall woman as she walked up to my bed to check my temperature.
‘Uhh… well as fine as I can be I guess.’
‘Ok, well you still seem hot from the other night, and I still advice you don’t go to school for a while-‘
‘But…’ I interrupted as both Mr Ford and Kiren chuckled beside me.
‘No buts Ms Blake. I will proscribe you to some Antibiotics for the flu and as for the head concussion and your ankle… well I’m sure the medicine will help clear that up as well. When you’re ready, you may leave.’ She said as she put the box of medicine on the table and walked out.
‘Can, can I walk?’ I asked, almost to myself as I got onto my bottom and shuffled to the edge of the Clinic’s bed but before I could get my feet over the edge, both guys leapt up, each holding one of my hands. I internally leapt for joy as they pulled me to my feet. As my feet touched the ground I let out a yelp of surprise.
‘Does it hurt Mr Blake?’ Mr Ford said anxiously.
‘No, no I was just surprised by the sudden tension. Let me down, I want to try and walk by myself.’ They both exchanged looks as they finally let me down.
