The Shadow king placed the card back on Yugi's deck and watched the door. His dark smile grew wider as the footsteps grew closer, but he didn't move from his position by the desk.
Then his smile instantly dropped as he saw who burst through the door. "You!" He gasped.

Bakura shut the door and leaned against it, out of breath. "So it's true..." he panted. "You're back."
"Of course I am."
"Why...?"
The Shadow king looked at the Kuriboh, still asleep on Yugi's bed. "I have a job to do."
"And that job is nothing good, I'm sure!"
"Shh! No. It's not. Why do you care?" The king asked quietly.
"That's a stupid question." Bakura replied.

The king rolled his eyes and rubbed his eye where the shadow scars were. "If you are going to do something, go ahead. Otherwise, you can leave me alone."
"What did you say to Yugi?" Bakura asked.
"Ah, that's his name. All I told him was to enjoy the chaos." The Shadow king let that same dark smile creep across his face again.

Bakura had no reply. Ryou appeared next to him. "Bakura...?" He asked worriedly.
So that's Bakura's host. The king thought.
Bakura gasped. "You can see me?"
Of course.
"Leave Ryou alone. What has Yugi been calling you?"
"Nothing. Use any name you wish, I've been called a lot through the years. Though a magician told me 'Yami' has been the most common recently, so that'll do."

Bakura paused. He nodded. "Is your memory bad as well?" He asked.
"That's none of your concern."

Yugi appeared next to Yami as he and Bakura kept talking, smiling in relief at Ryou. He smiled back.
"Your spirit's nice..." Yugi said quietly.
"He's wonderful... I'm so sorry Yugi." Ryou replied sadly.
Quiet, both of you. Yami thought. "Yes, alright? My memory's practically non-existent. Happy?" He told Bakura.

Bakura nodded again. He noticed the Kuriboh stir. Yami stopped leaning against the desk and gently picked it up, holding it close to his heart. He glared at Bakura.
"What?"
"You've done what you came to do. You checked on Yugi. Now leave us alone." Yami told him sternly.
"But-" Bakura started.
"Now!" Yami shouted, pointing to the door.

Bakura shrugged. "Fine. Don't think things will go any better for you now than last time." He left the room, shutting the door behind him.
Yami sighed and stroked the Kuriboh. "I don't care." He muttered to himself.

Yugi sighed. He'd wished Bakura hadn't just left. Though now he knew more about Yami, he wasn't as scared of him. "I like your name." He said.
It's not my name. I don't remember it. It's a nickname people use. Yami corrected him.
"I still like it... and your Kuriboh's adorable." Yugi smiled. Maybe if he could gain Yami's trust, he wouldn't do anything to hurt him.

Stop trying to be nice. I haven't fallen for that trick since I was 12. Yami thought. I have enough questions without you making me think.

Yami and the Kuriboh then disappeared as Yugi was allowed to take his place.

Back in Ryou's house, he was looking outside his window, playing with the necklace Bakura had given him. Why did you just leave? He asked.
"He wasn't doing anything wrong, there was nothing I could do. If he has done anything to Yugi, it was only a scare." Bakura explained.
I didn't know monsters were real...
"Oh yes, they are. I doubt Yami's very happy about this card game of yours."
Why?
"Possibly sees it as a mockery of those who fought for him."

Ryou didn't reply. He thought about what he knew. 2 ancient spirits had returned for completely different reasons, yet their items were somehow connected to the point they were both found in the same place. Monsters were real, all apparently part of the Duel Monsters card game, and Yami clearly cared for them, considering the way he treated the Kuriboh.

Is this going to be dangerous? He asked.
"Possibly, I can't lie to you. You'll be okay, I promise." Bakura told him. "I won't let anything happen to you."
Thank you.

Now all it was was a waiting game.
Waiting to see what Yami did.
Waiting for chaos to erupt again...
