Charles's POV

Another day, another disappointment.

"I don't even know why I try anymore..."

I sighed. It's tiring having the same routine for the last couple of weeks. Wake up. Eat. Do paperwork. Cook lunch. Eat again. Laze around. Wash up. Then sleep. And the cycle repeats.

Sure, I don't do the paperwork part any more but that doesn't make it any less different. Instead of doing paperwork, I do grocery shopping, which is exactly what I'm doing right now.

"That'll be 70.99, Charles."

"Thanks, Tory."

Toriel smiled at me as I gave her the money. I smiled at her as well.

I took the bags from the counter and left the store. As I was walking, I passed by an alleyway and heard a loud bang.

"Shit! What the heck?"

I looked around to see if anyone other than me heard it but for some reason the supposedly busy street became empty.

"Hello?" I called.

Another crash came from the dark alleyway making me jump.

"Gosh darn. If this is another prank by those kids, I swear..."

I trudged inside the alleyway slowly. Putting my guard up just in case.

"What am I even doing..? Why can't I ever mind my own business..?" I muttered to myself.

As I kept walking, I reached a dead end. I groaned then turned around and saw something yellow running behind a dumpster.

I narrowed my eyes and dropped my bags gently. I stepped towards the dumpster quietly and slowly.

"Hello?" I called out again. "I'm not gonna hurt you, whoever you are. So you can come out."

I stopped a few steps from the spot I saw it hide and crouched down. "Can you come out?"

I perked up when I saw a twitching ear appear. Then a paw. Then the head. Until it fully came out.

"Hey there buddy.." I said, reaching my arm out to it.

It was a ginger cat with bright golden eyes. It was staring at me intently then to my hand.

"Are you okay? I heard a loud bang just recently." I asked it, err him, shaking my hand gently.

His ear twitched before reaching his right paw to my right hand. I chuckled quietly at the cold sensation of his toe beans touching my palm.

"You don't seem to have any bruises so that's a relief. And you look healthy..."

I stood up and brushed my hands together, getting rid of the dirt. "Well, I better get going." I went to get my bags and started walking out the alleyway. "Bye then."

As I got out of the alleyway, the recently empty street bustled with honks and chatter.

'I guess it was just my imagination...'

I shrugged and continued walking towards my house. A few minutes later, multiple stares were thrown at me along with a few chuckles and coos. I raised a brow before realizing that it wasn't me they were staring at but something behind me.

I turned around, not seeing anyone when I heard a meow below. I looked at the owner of the sound and saw that it was the cat from earlier. I stared at him and he stared at me.

"You've got to be kidding me..." I muttered. "What are you doing following me around?"

He just tilted his head. This cat...
