Val stared at me, confuse and guilt plastered on her face. She cleared her throat and leaned back on her chair in total discomfort. "That's not good, right?" She asked as a tint of red covered her cheeks.
I looked away in to the crowd and crossed my left leg over the other. "I don't really know." She stared at me again, this time with worry. "I always thought my first time would be.."
"Would be what?"
I blushed feeling embarrassed. Her eyes were focused on me, patiently waiting my reply. "Not that I didn't like it, I just thought I'd actually have time to react. Instead, I sort of freaked out."
Her face turned bright red now forcing her to look away the moment I decided to meet her eyes. She remembered the moment I pushed her away and so did I. It was something I couldn't forget.
"I'm sorry if I-" she began.
"No, no, it's okay now. There's no need to apologize for it."
"But I stole something precious from you. First times are always important and I ruined it for you." She said in a sad and serious tone. "I'm sorry, Lira."
We held each other's gaze for a while. I couldn't find any words to say or any action to make. I was on a date with the most popular girl in high school and here she was apologizing to me, of all people. Was this how dates were supposed to be?
I smiled at her, my chest feeling hot and heavy as I reached for her plate and took a bite of her burger. She stared at me and then stared at the burger, confused. I placed the burger back on her plate and pushed it towards her.
"Now we're even." I said through a mouthful.
The night went by quickly and the next thing I knew, we were back in front of my driveway.
She placed the car on park and turned off the engine, leaving the key on the ignition to keep the radio playing. I took a deep breath and exhaled, a light grip on the ends of my shirt. She smiled noticing it.
"Not too bad for a date, right?" Her eyes glisten even in the dark.
Blushing, I responded. "Not too bad for a first date." We gazed in to each other's eyes. "I enjoyed it, thank you. It was really fun."
"I did too."
Her presence suddenly began to feel closer, noticeably because she was leaning towards me. I leaned too, knowing what was about to come. This was it. I would have part of the control this time and react the way I want to. This usually happened in the romantic movies I watched and here it is taking place in my reality.
She placed her hand behind my neck and hovered her upper body over me, our lips meeting in such gentle manner. It was just a light one but we held it longer than a normal peck. But it wasn't enough for me. Three seconds after we pulled away, I pushed myself upon her and continued our kiss. I wrapped my arms around her neck so she wouldn't be able to pull away this time and let her warmth engulf me.
"Lira?"
I pulled away quickly with a gasp and pushed Val back in to her seat, staring at the woman standing in front of the car. Her eyes were wide, body still as a tree, and hair long and frizzy.
"Mom?"
