"She was the most beautiful

complicated thing

I'd ever seen

A tangled mess

of silky string

And all I wanted of life,

was to sit down

cross-legged

and untie her knots"

- Atticus

You step into the kitchen, the panic starting to hit its peek. "What the hell, Tae?!" you almost yelp.

He whips around and points his finger at you. "It's not my fault you didn't tell us he was staying over!"

"I normally sleep with you two, what did you think was going to happen?!"

"I thought you'd be responsible enough to tell us these things! Are we not your lifelines now?"

Jimin awkwardly watches from his spot at the kitchen table. Poor boy is confused as hell. You can't blame him.

"Is this really what's important right now? You just used my real name in front of Jungkook and we have a situation! Care to tell me what's going on or do I have to do it myself?" you ask. Fight later, deal with the problem now.

"At this point you seem to want to do everything yourself, so go ahead, do it!"

"Enough! Both of you!" Jimin interrupts, standing. "We don't have time for this! Y/n, we got word from home, they've officially settled a trial date."

Your eyes widen, your lower lip quivering. "What? Already?"

"That's the part we didn't want to tell you. They can't have it for another six months."

"What?!" You didn't mean to raise your voice, but in a situation like this, who wouldn't?

"Despite the evidence you have, the search warrants have found nothing. Not a single trace of illegal activities. The places on the maps have been cleared out, same with the arsenals. They believe you, Y/n, but they aren't sure how to be one step ahead of them anymore," Jimin explains.

Taehyung paces around the kitchen, not looking at you or Jimin. It worries you, but it's not like there's anything you can do right now. You're not sure why he's like this. What's got him so worked up? You not saying Jungkook was staying over? It's almost like you're an adult, not a child. You're not going to apologize for having friends and locking your door. Tae didn't even know Jungkook was staying overnight until the morning. If Jungkook didn't bother him during the night, then why is he so upset now?

Your poor head is starting to ache trying to solve the puzzle. It's best if you deem it unsolvable and move on.

"If they don't have a trace of illegal activities, how do they have a trial set?" you ask.

"It's not set in stone. It's more of an estimate. Most of it is because of your evidence. What you gathered was quite impressive, so please don't feel too bad. You're the only reason why this investigation is being taken so seriously."

"Mafia leaders... taken seriously because the daughter turns her back on them and gathers a shit ton of undeniable proof that they're behind all the bad shit that happens in this world. And instead of getting an arrest warrant, they get a search warrant and think my parents aren't smart enough to clean things out and have security and monitors miles ahead of their private stashes in case something like this happens."

Tae stops pacing to glance at you with bulging eyes. For a brief moment, he appears sympathetic. Apologetic, even. The look drops as soon as it came.

Jimin comes over when he sees Tae doesn't move. He places his hands on your shoulders and forces you to meet his gaze. You'll never get tired of seeing Jimin's eyes. They're always so deep and full of emotion. The way he cares for you and Tae makes your heart beat faster. Not in the same way your heart beats for Jungkook, but in a way that makes you smile and laugh. Jimin feels like your best friend.

"Y/n, listen to me, everything you've done has helped the police and the people who get hurt because of your parents. Now they're scrambling to cover their tracks instead of hurting people. Even if you only saved one life, that's worth it in my book. Your courage and strength has saved people," he whispers.

"I know... I know that, but it's nice to hear it. Especially from you. Thank you."

He smiles, not questioning what you mean by 'especially from you'. Instead, he hugs you for what feels like the hundredth time since you've met. When you part, Jimin gives you a curt nod. Knowing it's inevitable, you turn to Taehyung.

"They know about my betrayal, don't they?" you ask in a whisper.

Tae shrugs. "We're not sure. Odds are they do, but they won't be able to find you. At least not for a while, even if they do. We're going to prepare for it. Do you know any self defense?"

You give a hum you hope sounds like affirmation. "I do. My father taught me the basics when I was a teen. I know how to shoot too."

"Shoot what?" Jimin asks, raising a teasing brow.

You sigh, unable to stop the amusement glittering in your eyes. Leave it to Jimin to find a way to ease the tension.

"So I'm stuck here for a while longer, huh?" you ask.

"I'm sorry," Jimin mutters.

You shake him off and head over to the fridge, opening it. "Knots and strings. My life is full of knots and strings. I finally free one knot and another appears below me. There's nothing I can do to fight back anymore. All I can do is sit and watch as more knots appear," you mumble, rifling through the area until you grab a bottle of water.

When you close the fridge, you almost jump seeing Jimin there with his concerned eyes. "Y/n, can I tell you something?" he asks. You motion for him to continue. He leans against the door you just closed. "You're right. Your life is knots and strings. A constant obstacle in your path."

You try not to tear up at his words, but it's impossible. Everything is falling apart.

"But you're wrong in one area," he whispers. You stiffen, losing all the air in your body. "There is something you can do. You can keep fighting, but this time, find someone to fight with you. To help untie all the knots you've ever had..."

A/N: Man I wonder what person Jimin could possibly be referring to.
