Chapter 5- friends.

-Hitoshis POV-

He walked into class bone tired and half asleep. He couldn't get to sleep last night, and this time it wasn't caffeine's fault.

He laid in bed, his mind replaying the events of the party over and over and over. The kiss, the way Kaminari ran off to the roof pretty soon after, his bad lies that he hoped Hitoshi didn't care enough to see through, the sadness in his eyes.

Gah! Why the hell does he take up my every thought?! Hitoshi asked himself angrily. No loud blondes, Aizawa had said, and what does he go and do? Make friends with a loud blonde! And then kiss him!!

"Hey, Shinsou!" Kaminari greeted him cheerfully. "How's it going?"

"Fine." Hitoshi replied shortly. "You?"

"I'm doing great!" Kaminari tapped his finger against the desk rapidly. It might be a trick if the light, but Hitoshi though he could see sparks darting over his skin.

"You're cheerful today." He noted.

"Yeah, I feel like it's gonna be a good day!" Kaminari said brightly.

"Kaminari."

"I just have this buzzing in my fingers and I woke up super happy and excited for class today!"

"Kaminari."

He stopped tapping. "Yeah?" He asked.

"What's wrong?" Shinsou asked flatly.

The effect was immediate. Kaminari's smile faltered and his facade cracked. "Nothing's really wrong yet." He said with a shake of his head, "something just feels off." His voice shook.

"Hey." Shinsou said softly. "Its okay. Everyone feels off sometimes."

"Maybe I just need to try harder..." Kaminari said and shook his head again.

"Kaminari." Shinsou said again. "Stop. Maybe you should take a break."

Kaminari's facade cracked a little further. "Y...yeah, okay." He agreed.

"C'mon. I've got foster son privileges and I can probably get you out of class today." Shinsou said. Then again, Kaminari looked so sad it might not take much convincing for Aizawa to let them take the day off.

"Okay." Kaminari said blankly and stood up. Shinsou walked to the front of the room and tapped Aizawa's shoulder.

"Huh? Oh, Shinsou. What's up?"

Hitoshi swallowed. "Um, I was wondering... Could Kaminari and I get a pass for today? He's feeling off and I..." He took a deep breath, "I don't think he's suited for social interaction today."

Aizawa raised his eyebrows slightly, "oh yeah? And is this particular loud blonde..."

"No, dad- Aizawa." Shinsou said in slight annoyance. "No, just-- can we have a pass for the day?"

"As long as I get to hear about it later, then I don't see why not." Aizawa said and waved them off.

"Thanks. C'mon, Kam." Hitoshi gestured for Kaminari to follow him and headed out of the classroom.

"Why'd you do that?" Kaminari asked, his voice shaking again.

"Because clearly you're not okay." Shinsou said and continued walking.

"No, I mean, why... Why'd..." Kaminari hesitated, "you noticed..."

Hitoshi chanced a glance at the boy. He wasn't smiling anymore. Somehow that wasn't as bad as the hollow smile he was smiling earlier.
