"André, quand vas-tu trouver un autre endroit où rester?" (André, when are you going to find another place to stay?)
"Why are you kicking me out?"
"Non, mais pourquoi tu ne restes pas avec cette fille que tu aimes?" (No, but why don't you stay with that girl you like?)
"Who I look like showing up to her crib asking her to move in? Stupide"
"Alors demande à Amiya, tout le monde sait qu'elle t'aime toujour!" (So ask Amiya, everyone knows she still likes you)
"Ight bro, Ima catch you later cause now you just sounding stupid."
"Recommendation bro." He says letting out a laugh.
"You're not funny. You got anything to eat?"
"This isn't Paris, you missed breakfast go to a gas station Andre."
"You couldn't wake me up?"
"Set up an alarm, its really easy."
I get up heading towards the fridge opening it to find, eggs, peanut butter, and cheese."
"Pourquoi tu n'as rien dans ton frigo?" (Why don't you have anything in your fridge?)
"If you have money, put something in the fridge."
"Yea you know what, I'm gonna head over to Olivia's and make myself some food."
"You don't think she's going to ask why you didn't eat at home? And plus, why would you need to make food, she probably already made some."
As I stood in front of the open fridge, contemplating my food options, my friend Clèas words echoed in my mind. He was right. I couldn't just show up at Olivia's place unannounced and expect her to cater to my hunger. Plus, there was a good chance she had already prepared something for herself.
I closed the fridge door and turned to Clèas, frustration evident in my voice. "This is your fault you know. Why don't you have food in your fridge? You dont even have MEAT!"
Clèas laughed and shrugged, seemingly unbothered by my frustration. "Hey, man, don't blame me for your lack of food. You're the one who needs to take care of your own belly. And who needs meat anyway? You can survive without it."
I rolled my eyes at his nonchalant response. "Easy for you to say. You're not the one with a grumbling stomach. I need something substantial to eat, not just eggs, peanut butter, and cheese."
"If Olivia won't feed you, go to Amiya's. It's that Simple."
"You're just assuming. How do you know Olivia is gonna say no?"
"I just do."
"Well unlike you Clèas, I actually have people that would want me in their house."
"Name one."
"....uhh, Olivia-"
"Anyone apart from Olivia, and me."
I sighed, realizing that Clèas had a point. Olivia was not my only option, and I needed to explore other possibilities. As much as I wanted to avoid asking Amiya for help, I knew deep down that she would be there for me if I needed it.
"Fine," I conceded, giving in to Clèas' persistence. "Maybe I should give Amiya a call. She's always been a good friend, and like you said, she still cares about me...and why not use that to my benefit."
Clèas nodded, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "That's the spirit, André. Sometimes, we need to swallow our pride and reach out to those who truly care about us. Amiya might be your best bet right now."
