78149 POV:
Ace has joined the squad, and has bonded fast. Although he does have the typical scout's "I'm better than the regular troopers" mentality, he doesn't live by it.
We've also gained yet another trooper, TK: MQJ-649-16892, AKA Scorch. He is straight from the Academy and fills in our tenth trooper spot. He is reserved, so no one knows him too well yet.
The Rebel Base is fortified very well. And I mean VERY well. Our intel had thought it was another city, however it is a base of nearly 50,000 Rebels. The 963rd Legion is occupied with the Northern Hemisphere, especially Jedha City, so they couldn't support us in the 939th.
The 939th Legion is led by LCMR Pyro. He has been in that position for longer than most have been in the Legion. Then leading the 2nd Regiment is CMR Bull, there's four Regiments. Below him is MAJ Thrill, who leads the 3rd Battalion, one of four Battalions. CPT Crunch leads our 3rd Company, which is also one of four within the Battalion. SGT Key leads the 5th Platoon of five. Finally we have CPL Dawn who leads us ten in the 4th Squad.
Overall, there's a total of 12,800 Troopers with 1,685 Officers. A grand total of 14,485 plus the Armored Cavalry Unit.
Back at the Academy, we were taught how many troopers the Empire needed.
1,194,002,000,000 Troopers Needed
-Full Member Worlds: 1.75m*51,200 (4 Legions)= 89,600,000,000
-Puppet/Colony Worlds: 69m*1600 (2 Battalions) = 1,104,000,000,000
-Star Destroyers: 40,000*9700 = 388,000,000
-Death Star: 1,000,000
-S. Star Destroyers: 13*1,000,000 = 13,000,000Thankfully, the 939th is considered a "Mobile Legion" so we will be transferred from planet to planet as the Empire needs.
Back to the mission, we are about fifteen thousand against fifty. Even with our better training, outnumbered more than 3:1 with the enemy being fortified could be a deadly issue.
Three days before our assault, the Commander gave us the rundown while presenting with a hologram of the Rebel base.
CMR Bull: "Our attack will be called Operation Pilgrim Moon and it'll consist of three phases." The hologram expanded to show a green area in a circle around the base. "Phase One: Desert Drop. We will attack from the South side as all different Regiments will go from the Cardinal directions. The Base has a shield above it so that it will be impossible for us to do a strike from orbit. That also have an Ion Shield so that no vehicles can work within two kilometers of the base. Your DZ will be these two kilometers out. From here, you will fight enemies using natural cover, like the rock formations, until you get within a half kilometer."
Phase One doesn't sound too crazy, but my bets are that it's the easiest of the three.
CMR Bull: "Phase Two: Hill Assault. You will charge up the hill towards the city walls with no cover." The hologram zoomed in. "This will be dangerous. Expect heavy mortar and blaster fire."
Well there we go. No cover, open targets, long distance. That would take us about two minutes of running, while being shot at and dodging fire.
CMR Bull: "Phase Three: Clear the City. You will eliminate all 40,000 Rebels we estimate will be inside. Fight for the Emperor. No retreat. LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!"
2nd Regiment: "LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!"

Not a word is said in the transport. As we prepare to land, the lights turn red. There is a single door, one way out.
