"So did you enjoy our practise?" Tristan looks over at me from the divers seat with a smile, then turns back.
"You're getting better! The songs are sounding great!" I reply enthusiastically. His smile lifts. I go and watch him and the rest of his band, Ghost town, every weekend at their studio. They're a small band but they are pretty good, and I'm not just saying that. They don't really do original songs but I think that's probably because none of them can come up with lyrics. If they did, I would probably be asked. They know I've written choruses before but they've never asked me to write for them. Not yet. "What other songs do you want us to do? You know we always take your ideas" that's true. It's really sweet of them.
"I don't know yet, I'll think of some" the rest of the drive is silent other than the radio. Tristan drops me back at my house, and we say our goodbyes. I open the door to screaming. It's Axel, my little brother, running round the house with a nerf gun and goggles. "THE MONSTERS ARE AFTER ME, MAEVE HIDE" he's only 10 bless him. He's a bit weird if you ask me, but then again all the best people are. He makes me laugh sometimes, with the things he says. I drop my bag down and go hide behind the sofa. "You are safe now sis" he shouts. All of a sudden a nerf bullet goes flying over my head. "There was one behind you" Axel says after I get up and give him an unimpressed look. "There all dead now anyway" he says sweetly.
"How was Tristan's practise?" Mom calls from the kitchen.
"It was good, they have a performance next weekend, Trist gave me a ticket already"
"That was nice of him" was the reply I got. I walk back to the door, grab my bag and go up the stairs. Finally back in my room. Now all I have to do is get my headphones on and find songs for the performance. I want something sweet and meaningful but still with enough rock to it for them to be able to play it. One direction? No way. Guns and roses? Good candidate but no. Bon Jovi? Nah. Nickelback ? Now that's a good one. I scroll through there songs and listen in. Enough rock, I think so. Now what song?
