Math class had turned into Josephine's least favorite subject, not because of the complexity of the equations, but simply because it was the only class where she felt like a complete stranger. The sense of isolation weighed heavily upon her.
Despite her best efforts to concentrate on the teacher's messy scribbles on the whiteboard, her mind continuously wandered. The feeling of detachment only served to amplify her yearning for a sense of belonging, making each math lesson feel like an battle against both the subject matter and her own internal struggles.
"After you, my lady."
She knew that she had to stop obsessing over this, it was more than likely how he interacted with every girl he came into contact with. But there was something that felt different.
The more she thought about it, the less she was sure.
35 minutes remained of the lesson. She needed to tell someone about it or she would explode. Furtively glancing at the teacher while pretending to study her textbook, Josephine reached into her blazer pocket and grabbed her phone, making sure it was on silent before unlocking it, pressing on Elle's contact.

Josephine's fingers flew across the screen as she recounted every detail. As she typed, her anticipation grew, and she eagerly awaited Elle's response, knowing her friend would share in the exhilaration of this new connection.
