"Really?" said Rodolf loudly.
"What?" asked Giovanni confused.
Neither one of them had said anything to the other for about ten minutes.
Rodolf replied, "I don't want to know that."
"Know what?"
"Like you don't know what you're telling me in my head? I'm not imagining it. Why would I imagine you saying when you get back, you're going to give in to your precious boyfriend's demands for sex?"
"How did you know that?"
"You told me."
"No, I didn't."
"So, what? You're letting me read your mind now? It's a little late. That would have been nice before your precious boyfriend came along."
"I'm not doing anything. Why would I want you to hear that?"
Rodolf responded upset, "One could ask why about a lot of your behaviour."
"Maybe it's a side effect from the portal."
"Just keep your thoughts to yourself. I don't want to hear about how great he is, how you have no problem going to the next level physically with him and how you love him 'cause he's so great and I never stood a chance."
Giovanni replied becoming frustrated, "I never said any of that."
"You might as well have. What is it about him that makes you choose to not read his mind and take things further? Or was it 'cause I was so bad?"
Giovanni answered with a shoulder shrug.
"That's it? Why am I surprised? Do you answer his questions like that? He probably gets all of his questions answered. Why not? You got over me so easily, assuming there was anything for you to get over!" Rodolf stood up.
"Don't assume how I feel!" responded Giovanni getting up.
"I have to assume. You don't tell me anything. If you want me to stop assuming, tell me. Tell me how you feel so I don't have to assume."
Giovanni hesitated. "I'm in love." He hoped that saying it aloud would solve something despite omitting for whom the feelings were.
Rodolf was stunned. He felt the need to express the negative emotions growing inside before they potentially overtook him. He turned to face the wall, then raised his hand and slammed it against the sandstone as Giovanni tried to speak. Everything around them turned to white light. For twelve seconds, the light around them altered between dozens of colours and turned black almost every three seconds. Giovanni and Rodolf didn't move afraid that they would step into nothing. The light returned to white for a full second before revealing the vast desert of clay. The ground at their feet and around them was much darker in colour than the rest of the region appearing nearly black. There was nothing else in their surroundings.
"Did I do that?" asked Rodolf confused. "I didn't even know I could do that."
"Now you know. Too bad you didn't do it sooner." Giovanni was relieved to be out of the cell and out of their latest conversation. He wasn't sure if Rodolf had truly done it, on his own anyway, but didn't mind giving him all of the credit.
"I'll try to be more psychic for you in the future."
"That would help."
Not knowing what to respond, Rodolf changed the subject. "Where do we go? We don't know where they brought the others."
Pointing in a direction slightly to their left, Giovanni replied, "There's a couple of people that way."
"What's a couple of people? They didn't just leave them alone so if that means only two—"
Feeling pressured to have answers, Giovanni interrupted, "That's all I can hear."
"All right, let's try it."
The two of them walked while not talking to each other. Rodolf didn't want to continue their previous conversation and other than how they had escaped the cell, it was the only thing on his mind. As for Giovanni, he wasn't ready to explain anything that was said so he kept quiet.

Suddenly, Sasha's fire went out leaving the group in darkness. Sasha tried to make another but couldn't create one of any size.
As he stopped moving, Peter asked worried, "What happened?"
Andy bumped into him.
Before Andy could express his annoyance, Sasha replied in an insecure tone, "I don't know. This' never happened before. I can't make another. I can't even warm the air around my hand."
"Well, have you ever used it this long before?" asked Liz trying to comfort Sasha.
Andy responded, "It hasn't been long. He can usually keep it going for three hours."
Peter grabbed Liz' hand. "We should keep going, right? It's not like we have another choice."
Liz replied, "Ya, we're fine. There's only one path. You're probably tired, Sasha." However, Liz didn't believe her own words to Sasha.
Sasha responded in a low voice, "I doubt it."
Andy said to Liz, "It's odd your ability grew while ours became weaker."
Liz didn't respond to Andy's comment. There was nothing to say that would make any of them feel better.
The four of them continued on the path at a slower pace no longer able to see in front of them hoping to find some light soon.
