Los Angeles, California 1990Eddie stood, shirtless, on the hotel balcony, as he lit the cigarette that was fixed between his lips. After taking a particularly long drag, he leaned forward against the cool, metal railing. He watched as the early morning sun bathed the city below in its warm, all encompassing light.
He then sighed as he reminisced over how crazy, exhausting and exciting the last two years had been.
After getting signed in '87 and the release of their debut album, Coroded Coffin hit the road the following year for a massive world tour. He was still in disbelief that he even survived his harrowing escape from the Upside Down, let alone go on to become the front man for what would become one of the biggest bands in the world.
The 'overnight' success of it all was something he was still coming to terms with, even now, after he'd essentially been dubbed a global superstar. Celebrity didn't come easily or naturally to him, as he felt overwhelmed by it all, but managed to maintain his funny and flirty persona during interviews and television appearances. Although, at this point, he had accepted and leaned into his celebrity status. Being on a seemingly never ending world tour, playing to sold out crowds will do that, he surmised, with a laugh.
He then recalled all the bands he had gotten to perform with, with his favorite and most surreal being when Ozzy asked if he would join him on stage for a couple songs, when he found out they were playing shows in neighboring cities.
It was like an out of body experience, he would later say, getting to perform with one of his idols, as he thought his life and career had peaked in that moment. And now, he was able to call him a friend, which was even more surreal.
His thoughts then shifted to tonight's show being the final one, of the tour, and he had mixed feelings about it all coming to an end. Part of him wished he could stay in this rockstar fantasy forever, as this was the life he had always dreamed of.
As amazing as it was, he thought the best part was having you by his side. He knew he wouldn't have been able to get through this tour without you, and told you so numerous times. You would then playfully roll your eyes in response, and tell him he needed to give himself more credit, as he never realized how incredible of a performer he was.
"You're so mesmerizing up there, it's like you cast a spell over the crowd...I've never seen anything like it," you would say to him, night after night, while he just sheepishly grinned.
He knew there was a special connection between him and his fans, as you weren't the only one to mention how the energy in each stadium and arena was unlike anything they had ever felt.
He was going to miss feeling that every night, as it was quite the high to come down from.
While he was lost in thought, he felt you wrap your arms around him, and hug him from behind. He smiled, as you squeezed him tightly, before placing several kisses across his back.
He then quickly put out his cigarette and turned to face you.
You just gazed at each other for what seemed like the longest time, while his hands cradled your face.
You took this moment to really admire the the sight before you.
Only when you looked into his gorgeous eyes, smudged eyeliner only emphasized the dark purple circles underneath them.
You frowned slightly at this, prompting him to quietly ask, "What?"
"You're lookin' kind of rough, Munson," you then joked, while he laughed.
"Thanks babe, you always say the sweetest things," he snarked, before giving you a peck on the lips.
"I'm just keeping you humble," you added, with a sly smile.
