Code Blue Hearts (Occupational Desires)

PROLOGUE

For the past years, I have become attuned to the symphony of sounds that reverberate through the hospital walls.

The constant beeping of monitors, the hum of medical equipment, the shuffling of footsteps, and the hushed whispers of conversations all form the backdrop of my daily routine.

These familiar sounds have become a part of my life, serving as cues and reminders of the critical life I have.

Kasalukuyan akong nasa nurse's station ng surgical ward para iupdate ang chart ng pasyente ko  galing OR ng marinig ang kaibigang papalapit.

"There's quite a buzz around here today" sabi n'ya ng makalapit sa tabi ko

"Anong meron?" tanong ko habang patuloy sa pagsulat ng latest vitals ng pasyente

"Ngayon daw ang dating ng mga bagong doctor na natransfer sa hospital natin. 

Some  nurses were whispering excitedly kaninang lunch break sa cafeteria. Para silang mga bubuyog, nakakairita!" sabi nya habang nagsisimula na din sa kanyang charting.

Napatingin ako sa relong suot. 

Alas-dos na din pala, hindi nanaman ako nakakain ng lunch.

I looked up to her, my eyes narrowing slightly.

"New doctors? I haven't really been keeping up with the gossip. What's all the fuss about?" isinara ko na ang chart ko dahil natapos ko na rin naman ito.

"Well, word on the grapevine is that they are some of the best in their respective fields. Highly skilled, charismatic, and incredibly good-looking. Kaya parang mga kiti-kiti sila Jana kanina" her referring to one of our colleagues na malaki ang galit nya sa hindi ko malamang dahilan.

"Oh, come on Emma, wag silang masyadong umasa. We've had rumors like this before, and they rarely live up to the hype." tugon ko at sya ay napabuntong hininga na lamang.

She was busy finishing her charting while I quietly listened to her banter.

I have seen the ebb and flow of hospital dynamics over the years and I have learned not to let rumors distract me.

Isinara nya na ang kanyang patient chart indicating that she's done when suddenly the sound of the speaker cracked to life, capturing both our attention.

"Attention all available nurses, please gather in the conference room for an important announcement. Thank you." coming from the speaker with our chief nurses' voice.

"Ayan na nga. Sila na yan, naku naku. Kapag hindi pogi mga doctor na darating tatawanan ko talaga yung mga bubuyog kanina ng malakas" natatawa ko s'yang tinignan nang sabihin nya 'to.

"Saktong ilang minuto pa bago ko balikan yung pasyente ko. Ikaw ba?" baling ko sa kanya
