I fell asleep in class and woke up in another world

Chapter 3

I followed Kageru while chatting with Hikari,

"Hey Heizo, what's the actual reason you called Kageru, Kage?" Hikari asked me,

I pick up a leaf on the ground and grab my pen from my journal, I write it down.

"This is the kanji for Kageru, the first kanji means shadow, while the second means flow or to wander, I'm pretty sure that suits him quite well, but if I take away the fact that he can escape me, as to the flow or slip away, I will only be left with shadow, which is why I call him Kage, a literal translation of shadow," I said with a serious tone as I throw the leaf into the ocean.

I then hear a giggle, then turned into laughter, I look towards the direction of the noise, to see Hikari laughing with her hands on her stomach,

"I didn't expect such a serious response, I was expecting something along the lines of "because he's an idiot" or something like that, I didn't expect a lesson on the meaning of his name and his nickname," she said still laughing,

"yeah yeah, very funny," I said to her with an unenthusiastic tone.

But our bickering was interrupted when a sword was suddenly pointed at my throat,

"What are you doing following our captain?' I heard a threatening voice say,

"Do you wish to die," I respond to their accusation with a death threat, but before we both lunge into a fight, Hikari quickly stops us and explained that I will be tagging along, she told us to get along as it will be quite a long trip to the kingdom.

After leaving the ship and thanking the sailors, we decided to rest at a town and refill on supplies before leaving on the 1-week trip to the kingdom of Donna, we go to an inn to check in,

"Sorry but we only have 2 rooms available." the person at the front desk told us,

"How about we share the rooms?" Hikari suggests,

"That will be excellent, me and Hikari can share a room while the others can have the other." Kage stupidly suggests, to which Hikari replies with a swift" No thank you."

" How about boys and girls have separate rooms?" The person at the front desk suggested, to which we agree instantly.

I pay for the rooms, earning thanks from the group.

I am currently in the forest about 10 minutes away from the town, exploring the place to see if there's anything for me to hunt and level up, but all I found was a pack of deers which I killed for meat and a bear which I killed to see if it'll sell.

I was dragging the bear back when I heard animal cries, I decided to check it out, and when I got there to see an injured and unconscious fox cub, I quickly take out my first aid kit and treat its wounds, I decided to take it back to town along with my bear corpse.

I first went to the butcher,

"Hello, I wish to sell something," I told the butcher,

"I'm guessing it's the bear you're dragging," he said,

"Yes sir," I answered,

"I'll take it for 20 plates," he suggested,

"Sure," I said handing the bear over and taking the money out of the butcher's hands,

"Nice doing business with you."

I then went back to the inn to find that I'm going to be rooming with Hikari and another girl,

"Heizo, where were you?" Hikari asked with a hint of anger,

"I was in the forest." I answered, " And you are?" I asked the other girl,

"I am Asuka Enomoto, nice to meet you." the now-named Asuka answered,

"Nice to meet you as well, I'm Heizuru," I said while putting the fox on the top bunk of the bunk bed,

"Last name?" Asuka asks,

I never thought about it yet, I fish out the name book from my bag and pretend to read the contents inside while in reality, I was rapidly skimming through possible last names for me, I eventually landed on

明 (bright)

智 (wise, knowledgeable)

"Akechi, Heizuru Akechi" I answered her as composed as I could, like I haven't just looked through an entire 4 sections to find this name.

Just as Asuka was going to speak again, the fox stirred and woke up,

"Well, hello there, did you sleep well?" I said catching its attention, its lunges at me and bites my arm, well more like I let it bite my arm, after a few seconds I start petting its head gently, and slowly it starts to let go, it then just sits on my bed, I went to grab a piece of deer meat I brought with me and held it towards it, prompting it to eat, it took it from me, still cautious.

After it finished eating, it turned to me and sniffed me a few times before leaving me alone,

"Hey Heizo, we're going to the bath, you wanna come with?" Hikari asked me at the door with Asuka, I agreed and grabbed my towel, and a change of clothes that I bought on the way back from the forest then gently picked up the fox cub bringing it with me,

"Who's this Heizuru?" Asuka asked,

"This is a fox cub that I rescued in the forest," I replied,

"What were you doing in the forest?" Asuka continued to question me,

"None of your business." Not wanting her to know I couldn't find anything but a pack of deer,

"Why is it none of my business?" Asuka continued the press on,

"Why is it your business?" I fired back,

"Becau–" "How about we calm down?" before Asuka could continue, Hikari interrupted with a menacing glare in her eyes, warning us both, to which I fire back with a glare of my own, we then enter the bath, there wasn't anyone but us,

"Seems like we have the bath all to ourselves," Hikari says with a smile, we all get d undressed and showered first.

While the others already went into the bath, I was scrubbing the fox cub until all the blood and dirt is gone, the fox cub seems to like it, afterward I picked it up and went into the bath, we were in a comfortable silence when,

"Hey, Heizo," Hikari said catching my attention,

"mhm," I hummed,

"What would you name the fox, since it seemed quite fond of you," Hikari asked,

"it is?" I wondered looking at the fox cub, which it in turn yipped,

"Yes, it is you blind fool." Asuka fired,

"How does that make me a "blind fool"?" I asked her,

"Okay, before things get heated, Heizo just answer my question." Hikari Interrupted,

"Maybe, Keijiro?" I asked,

"Please don't name it Keijiro, that's Kageru's deceased father's name," Asuka told me,

"You know an awful lot about Kage. How about Mamoru?" I asked again,

"That's good, it means protector." Hikari agreed,

"Okay then, little one, from now on, your name is Mamoru," I told him, which he in turn yipped.

Somewhere in the Efera Forest, two teenagers woke up at a tree stump with two chests and two backpacks next to them.
