Last night was an absolute nightmare for me. Hikari was asking a lot of questions about my past which a lot I pushed away and ignored, except for my age and parent's name, which I can see frustrated Hikari a lot. I argued with Asuka a few times as well, and Hikari had to stop by either interrupting us from talking by asking me more questions, or just pushing between us to stop the arguments from escalating. While Mamoru just slept in my bed, Mamoru, I envy you.
This morning we ate some breakfast at one of the local taverns, the food was okay, but nothing beats seaweed-flavored instant noodles with fishballs, but unfortunately, neither instant noodles nor fishballs were invented yet. I mentally sigh.
We are currently in Efera Forest on a 5-day trip to a town on the other side of the forest, Mamoru is currently sleeping on top of my backpack, which attracted the attention of one very nosy Kage to start poking questions at me, who I blatantly shut up with a simple yet effective" Will you shut up before I follow through with my murderous thoughts."
Works every time.
I also learned that the Efera Forrest is home to zero monsters, the most dangerous creatures here are only wolfs and bears, which rarely approach humans, no wonder I couldn't find anything.
we walked through the entire day, stopping only for food and water, before long, the sun was already setting, so we decide to set up camp in a small clearing mostly surrounded by trees, I was in charge of cooking the deer meat that I brought with me while the others did their other tasks.
Before we know it, we were ready to head to sleep, I got the first watch, Hikari got the second and Kageru got the last.
I was poking at the fire and reminiscing about the old world, my old home, which to me was nothing, to be honest. It was just a routine every day, get out of bed with 1-2 hours of sleep, sometimes less, then go to school, sleep in class, chat with some friends during the break, go home, do homework, eat, play video games, workout a bit then sleep, nothing significant, just a routine.
Now that I think about it, my parents never seemed to be there, they only seemed to care about my grades. Well, no wonder my favorite food is instant noodles with fishballs, cause I don't know how to cook anything else, it's painfully hilarious. I don't miss my world at all, well, not at all, I do miss m–
My thought was cut short by Hikari tapping on my shoulder,
"Hey Hikari, what do you need, your shift hasn't started yet," I asked her,
"I just couldn't sleep." she answered me, " The floors are quite hard, even if I put a mat on it."
"You wanna sleep in my hammock, you seem to like it when we were on the ship," I suggested,
" But you need to sleep later as well when it's Kageru's shift, I already took your sleeping spot on the ship once, I really shouldn't take it again," she stated her concern,
"I'll tell you a little secret, I have insomnia, which means I have trouble falling or remaining asleep for long periods, so don't worry about me, I barely ever sleep anyways," I reassured her,
"Alright then, but if even after my shift you're still awake, then I'm dragging you to sleep with me in the hammock, alright?" she asked,
"Alright," I replied watching her climb into my hammock then after a few minutes, hearing her breathing even out,
Seems like she likes hammocks huh, if I have a chance, maybe I'll get one for her.
I pet Mamoru who was sleeping on my lap for a bit when suddenly I hear a rustle, I put Mamoru on my jacket which I had folded on the ground, I then lit a stick that had been lying around on fire as my light source and grabbed my spear, I climbed a tree and leaped around trying to spot them when I eventually did, it seems there are two guys, one with lots of armor and another with a cloak, I put out my makeshift torch, then dropped down on one off them and used my spear and swept the other off their feet, then pointed the spear at his head,
"Hazel?" I heard the guy under the spear speak,
How does he know my real name?
I took a closer look at him when I recognized him,
"Triston?" I asked,
"Wait, Hazel?" I heard the other guy in the cloak ask,
I look at him as well, when I recognize him as well,
"Jace?" I ask him,
" It is you!" Triston got up and hugged me,
" What are you doing here?" Jace asked me,
" I'll explain it later, but first, I'm going to bring you guys the camp I'm supposed to be guarding right now, but there are other people as well, so make your names sound as Japanese as possible," I told them while walking back to camp,
" How about Torisuton and Jieisu, they sound Japanese but still sound like your name, by the way, my name is Heizuru Akechi, nice to meet you." I introduced myself to them with my new name,
But before they could respond, I heard chatter near the camp, so I quickly leap towards the trees and rush back,
" Do try to keep up will you!" I shouted to them in a hurry,
When I reached the camp, I saw giant pig-like things going to attack Hikari, I quickly leap off the branch that I was standing on, and used my spear and stabbed through that thing's head, causing blood to splatter everywhere, waking Hikari up,
"Heizo, is it my shift yet," she asked me in a droopy tone,
" No, wake up! We're under attack!"I shouted while flipping the hammock, causing her to jolt up. She grabs her bow and arrow and fires away.
I continue slashing through the pig things and waking up the others. After a while, Triston and Jace finally arrived. I saw that one of the things is about to attack them, so I quickly threw my spear and killed the thing.
I finally grab my daggers and finished them off,
" Thanks, Haz—I mean Heizuru," Triston said barely catching himself,
" Do you know them Heizo?"Hikari asks,
" Yes I do, they are my old friends from long ago." I looked at them as their cue to introduce themselves,
" I-I'm Torisuton."
" My name is Jieisu"
" Can we introduce ourselves tomorrow, just set up camp, Kageru, it's your shift now," Asuka said setting down her staff and falling back onto her sleeping mat,
" No complains here, come on Heizo," Hikari said dragging me towards my hammock,
" Wait you were serious?" I asked her
" Of course, I was, now come on" she replied already starting to fall asleep,
" But we're covered in blood" There were only a few splatters,
" We can wash off when we reach the town, now come on"
She says crawling into my hammock, then opening her arms waiting for me to climb in as well.
I give in, put my weapons to the side, and crawl into her arms, she wraps them around me and I awkwardly wrap my arms around her as well, after a few moments, I feel a rare darkness start to surround me, maybe sleeping with Hikari isn't so bad after all.
I was woken up by someone patting my head softly, I will myself to open my eyes, but immediately shut them due to the sudden light, but after adjusting to it. I looked up to see Hikari smiling at me,
"Good morning, did you sleep well?" she asked me,
"Yes, I did, for the first time in forever," I told her still a little dazed,
" That's good, I'm glad I dragged off you to sleep," she says with a smile.
Once again, I felt a rare darkness surround me again, before I fell asleep again, I think I heard a small,
"Sleep well Heizo."
