Alex sighed as they hit another batch of traffic. Britt looked down at her phone. It was nearing one in the morning, their ten hour drive had turned to fifteen. She looked into the backseat at Jamie and Toni who were fast asleep.

"You can sleep too. I'll be fine Britt." He said quietly. She looked over at him not wanting to leave him to have to drive in silence. "We've only got an hour till Nashville and this shouldn't be too bad."

"I'll keep you company Alex. Now tell me. What songs would you like to listen to?" He adjusted in his seat as the car came to a standstill. His hand ran along his chin as he thought about it.

"You might hate me for this but anything country." She looked over at him.

"You've been putting up with their son choices for the last fifteen hours. I can handle a bit of country. Anyone in specific?" His fingers tapped on the wheel.

"Walker Hayes. But not Fancy Like. That's too overplayed." She quickly found a song before music began to lightly play through the car speakers. He watched as she adjusted trying to find a comfortable spot in the seat.

"You know I never picked you for a country guy." He chuckled quietly while putting the car in park knowing they were going nowhere anytime soon. His foot tucked beneath his leg as he carefully leaned his chair back making sure he wouldn't hit Jamie as he did.

"I don't listen to music much but when I do I pick stuff that actually has a meaning. Like don't get me wrong, I will go back and listen to Green Day and all the other grunge rock shit that I was into as a kid but it's nice to just have some calm music every once in awhile." Her eyes met his before he flashed her a small smile. "You really don't have to stay awake. You look shattered Britt."

"I'm alright Alex." The yawn that escaped her lips after her statement said otherwise. When she tried to look away she could feel his fingers along her chin pulling her gaze back to his.

"Britt. You need to sleep." Toni in the back was watching the sight in front of her trying not to make a sound. Though it still looked like she was sleeping she could see out of the crack between her eyelids what was unfolding.

"I'm fine Alex. You need help." He chuckled at her words.

"With what? We're not going to move until the morning." Gently he pulled his fingertips away from her skin. "I know they've got all the pillows back there but I do have a perfectly good shoulder." Toni was internally screaming but she had to maintain that she was still sleeping.

"I'm not sleeping Alex." He eyed her.

"Would you stop being so stubborn?" He was using her words against her. She bit the inside of her cheek. She wanted to give in but she also didn't. A sigh escaped her lips before her feet tucked beneath her. Her seatbelt was pushed off of her shoulder as she leaned forwards. Carefully her head moved to rest along his shoulder. "Now was that so difficult." She nodded causing him to chuckle. "Close your eyes. I promise you I'll be fine Britt."

Toni could see Britt shift before her hand ran down Alex's forearm. The Aussie had to stop her mouth from dropping as the brunettes fingers laced with his. She could see him look down for a moment. He looked confused but quickly he relaxed back into the seat.

After a few moments Britt felt Alex's thumb begin to gently move along her knuckles. She shifted slightly, her head moving more into him. She couldn't help but wish they were in his truck so there would be nothing between them. When she finally found a comfortable spot he could feel her arm wrap around his bicep.

"You good?" The words were too quiet for Toni to hear but she could see his head turn towards Britt as he spoke. Slowly she nodded as her eyes finally closed. She couldn't help the sigh that escaped her lips as she felt his lips press to the top of her head. "Good. Now go to sleep." She lazily nodded.

Alex carefully adjusted as the next song came on. He shifted more towards the brunette allowing her to lean even more into him. Her face buried into the fabric of his shirt. As he felt her get heavier along his shoulder he couldn't help but lightly sing along to the song.

"Her favorite season is football." Britt couldn't help but notice as he sang those words his thumb strayed along the back of her knuckles. As the song ended and the sleep hit her more she couldn't help but give in. Within moments she was asleep.

Toni however was still discreetly watching it all. She hadn't known he was singing as it was soft and only for Britt to hear but she saw his lips moving as he looked at the brunette. She could hear the radio shift songs once more as his fingertips brushed a few stray hairs out of her best friends face. It took everything in the Australian to stay quiet. All she wanted to do was scream at the both of them to realize the feelings they had for the other.

Alex looked down at his phone trying to figure out what was going on ahead of them. Once he figured out that it was a massive accident and that cleanup would take hours he decided to get comfortable. The song shifted one more time and he carefully leaned to turn it up. It was one of his recent favorites. This time as he began to sing Toni could hear the words he was saying.

Alex's cheek moved to rest against the top of Britt's head as he sang along to the words. Though he didn't want to fall asleep there was no use in fighting it. The brunettes hand slowly began to move along his bicep. Even though he knew she was awake he kept softly singing.

Toni couldn't help the fact that her jaw dropped at Britt's next move. Her head tilted before her lips met Alex's cheek. The Aussie could see him turn red at the action. Britt's next words were spoken softly against his skin

"Close your eyes Alex." Sleep was coating her words. His eyes met hers before he nodded his nose brushing against hers ever so slightly. Her head moved back to his shoulder before his cheek moved back to its previous spot. "Night Al." He chuckled softly. This time as his lips pressed to her head she could feel them linger as he spoke.

"Night Britt."
