As the sun rose over the enchanting streets of Monaco, Sophia and Charles shared a bittersweet breakfast at a charming café. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, intermingling with the scent of their emotions.
They savoured every moment, their laughter and smiles creating a symphony of joy. With each passing minute, Sophia's heart grew heavier, knowing that her time in Monaco was coming to an end. But she was determined to make the most of the remaining hours she had with Charles.
"So your flight is at 18:00 tonight right?" Charles asked. "Yes, so what time do you think we should leave?" Sophia replied.
"It's a little over a 30 minute drive to the airport, so I think around 15:30 maybe?" He replied. This left her with more than 2,5 hours before take off which was enough time. "So we have like 4 hours to kill now?" Sophia said.
"Yes and I am going to take in every second" Charles replied. They had not spoken about what they would do after Sophia left. When the next time they would see each other would be. There was only one and a half week of summer break left before Charles had to go back to his busy racing schedule.
After breakfast, they strolled hand in hand through the winding streets, relishing in the beauty of the city and the warmth of their connection. Every step they took together felt like a stolen moment. Sophia didn't know how things were gonna go when she was back home and he was still here.
They made their way up the hill to have a last look at the beautiful city of Monaco. Gazing at panoramic views of the Mediterranean. On their way back Sophia's heart felt heavier with each step she took. She had to go and pick up her stuff from the hotel and go to the airport in Nice.
As the afternoon sun reached its zenith, the reality of Sophia's departure loomed ahead. Charles drove her to the airport in Nice, their hands clasped tightly as if trying to defy the inevitable. Their conversation flowed effortlessly. Talking about everything that happened the past few days, all the inside jokes they had collected together.
Even on the road, they found ways to infuse every moment with laughter and joy. They sang along to their favourite songs, their voices filling the car with a harmonious chorus. In each other's presence, the world around them seemed to fade away. Even though they both couldn't sing at all they made the most out of these last moments together.
As they arrived at the airport, a mixture of emotions swirled within Sophia. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness, knowing that the distance between them would soon grow. But she also carried a sense of hope, a belief that their love had the power to withstand any challenge.
With tender farewells and promises to stay connected, Charles and Sophia hugged each other tight. Since it was very busy around and Charles was already spotted by some fans, they had to keep their goodbyes a little bit more low key. Before they let go of each other they looked each other in the eye, knowing they both didn't want to end things here.
Sophia embarked on the plane back to the Netherlands. The hours in the air stretched out before her, providing a space for reflection and introspection. This was the first time she was flying by herself. Luckily it was a really short flight to Amsterdam.
As the plane soared through the sky, Sophia's mind wandered through the memories of the past three weeks. She reminisced about the heartbreak that had initially brought her to Monaco, the laughter and adventures she shared with her friends, and the unexpected love she found in Charles.
Her heart had experienced the full spectrum of emotions, from heartbreak to love. She marvelled at the way life had unfolded, leading her to this moment of profound transformation. Sophia started writing in her journal. She felt this really helped her keep track of her emotions and thoughts through these chaotic times.
