As I unpacked boxes in Alex's penthouse, the realization hit me like a ton of bricks - my period had decided to make an uninvited appearance at the most inconvenient time. Groaning inwardly, I leaned over the kitchen counter, my hands clutching my lower abdomen as waves of cramps washed over me.

"Everything okay, princess?" Alex's voice cut through the haze of discomfort, his concern evident as he approached me.

I straightened up slightly, forcing a tight smile despite the throbbing ache in my stomach. "Just peachy," I replied, my tone dripping with sarcasm as I fought to keep the pain at bay.

Alex arched an eyebrow, his lips quirking into a smirk. "You sure about that?" he teased, his eyes dancing with amusement as he leaned against the counter next to me.

I shot him a mock glare, the corners of my lips twitching with the effort to stifle a smile. "Oh, absolutely," I retorted, my voice heavy with sarcasm as I rolled my eyes. "It's like a party in my uterus, and everyone's invited."

He chuckled softly, reaching out to gently rub circles on my back in a comforting gesture. "Well, if it's any consolation, I have ice cream in the freezer," he offered a mischievous as glint in his eyes.

I couldn't help but laugh at his attempt to lighten the mood, the tension in my shoulders easing slightly at his playful banter. "You're such a romantic," I teased, nudging him playfully with my elbow.

He grinned, his gaze softening with affection as he leaned in closer. "Only for you, princess," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple. "Now, let's get you some ice cream and make those cramps regret ever crossing your path."

As Alex assured me he would handle the rest of the unpacking, I couldn't help but feel a wave of gratitude wash over me. My cramps were relentless, and the prospect of getting some much-needed rest sounded like heaven.

Why does this have to happen?

"Are you sure you don't need any help?" I asked, skepticism coloring my tone as I glanced back at him, still sorting through boxes with a determined look on his face.

He looked up, a reassuring smile playing on his lips. "Positive. You go get some rest, princess," he insisted, his voice firm yet gentle.

Reluctantly, I made my way over to the stairs, each step feeling like a small victory against the persistent ache in my abdomen. Collapsing onto the bottom step, I let out a weary sigh, my exhaustion threatening to overwhelm me.

"Need some help?" Alex's voice floated over to me, his concern palpable as he approached.

I nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips despite the discomfort. "Please," I replied, grateful for his offer of assistance.

With a warm smile, he reached out and scooped me up into his arms, effortlessly carrying me up the stairs like I weighed nothing at all. As he laid me down on the bed, I couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth flood through me at his tender care.
