Ayato

She turned her head sideways to see the blade partly submerged into the wood beside her. That would've been her neck, had she not acted on her last-second impulses.

She didn't hesitate to speak, "You said you're interested in my good friend Taeko, right?"

He pulled the knife out of the trunk effortlessly, and slid it back into his pocket, "Go on."

"Do you really think you'd be able to get away with murdering the best friend of the woman you love? If Taeko had ever found out, she would've been repulsed by you."

He scoffed, "She never would have found out. My plan was infallible, all I needed was to get rid of you. Then, when Senpai would grieve over your disappearance, I would be there to fill in the cracks that you've left behind. She would've eventually loved me, and by then you would have been forgotten and left behind as a mere, distant memory." (Y/n)'s hands began to ache as they were still locked in the position that he held them in. She thought the plan wasn't very good since Taeko had multiple friendships, so her disappearance wouldn't have left her as vulnerable as the man seemed to have thought, "You had better thought of something that I'd consider striking a deal with you for. Your life for my ambitions. Quickly, Woman, your life quite literally depends on it." He was getting impatient.

She steadied her breath, "A better way to earn Taeko is for me to slowly introduce you into her life. That way, the transition of you from being a stranger to a friend would be much smoother." She saw the man's eyes soften in deep thought, and although it wasn't over yet, she felt as though she was shifting him into the right direction, "With your original plan, in regards to removing me from the equation, it wouldn't make sense for Taeko to just accept someone she's never spoken with to just enter her life so quickly after a loss. It would just seem less rigid if I introduced you from the get go and you two naturally got together."

"You have a fair point." He said, pulling away so that he wasn't so close to her anymore. He still had his hand wrapped around her wrists, but he loosened his grip. "There are many who have eyes for my senpai. When a time comes where someone attempts to win her over, you will help me eliminate them." He commanded, "I will let go, but don't you dare run."

She knew there was practically no chance she'd survive if she did try to run, so she had to just collaborate with him until he'd let her leave. As told, he let go of her. The feeling of cold air rushing onto her wrists that experienced soreness was a relief, and she twisted them to get accustomed to the returned freedom she felt had been stolen for an eternity. She didn't want to even imagine what the word 'eliminate' must've meant to him, to the point where her brain didn't even want to explore the word.

"I have certain conditions if we are to get into this ordeal, if you don't mind." She said, bravely.

"Oh? I didn't think you were in the position to be demanding such things?" He said, in a semi-engaged, uninterested tone, "Name them."

"Firstly, please keep violence away from Taeko. She shouldn't be subjugated to this. Secondly, avoid murder at all costs when trying to push others away from Taeko. Thirdly," She took a step forward so that her back was no longer touching the tree, "I would like to know your name."

"Alright. Although, I'll ignore your conditions if I see fit to do so. As for my name," A cloud must've covered the moon, because its light now barely reflected off of him, "Ayato Aishi."

"So, when should we start our arrangement?"

"Tomorrow. You'll meet me at the front gate before school. Hand me your phone." He said, taking the whole plan into deep consideration. She complied quickly, just wanting to go home. Anything to go home. She watched the man, now named Ayato, press a few buttons on her phone before returning it to her. "You have my number." He took a few steps back, and turned his back against her, ushering her to follow him out of the lost area. He then paused and glanced back over to her, "Do not disappoint me."

She walked alongside him and eventually found herself back into the main path. She picked her bag back up from where she had thrown it, and the two continued walking until they reached the end of the path. He walked as though nothing ever happened, and as they were about to part ways, Ayato began to speak again.

"By the way, if you try to get anyone else involved, much less the police, I'll know. You're on a thin line, (Y/n), and I'll kill you and your loved ones the second you overstep it."

She nodded weakly, and turned to walk to her house. Tapping the screen of her phone made her realise that it had only been about seven minutes since she had last checked it. It perplexed her, because it felt as though at least an hour would have passed. It was to be expected, though, that in a life-or-death situation, time would not be kind towards her. The young woman, who had been so broken down from the incident, managed to stumble her way in front of her front door, and barely fumbled her key into its destination.

She opened her door, and although she regularly showered at night, her legs would have given out if she walked even a few steps more. She threw her shoes off, and fell onto her bed out of her body's own meekness, and stared at the ceiling of her lightless room. She could make heads or tails as to what had happened, or if had even happened at all. In one night, her entire world was flipped over on its axis and was to be irreparably altered.

Yet, despite her trauma, she knew she had to devise a plan. When she finally awoke from what seemed to be a paralysis-like state, she felt her body wash a wave of exhaustion over her body, and her eyelids began to become formidably heavy. So, as she tried to fight her exhaustion, thoughts began to formulate in her mind.

She wasn't sure as to whether or not she should have told Taeko. Perhaps going to the authorities would have been an unwise plan at that moment, especially with the lack of evidence against Taeko's stalker, and the threat that he made. It was clear that he had plans and backup plans. (Y/n) knew her life had now gone into a state of disarray, and she knew that she would have been the target of the arrow of an assassin soon if she didn't begin to act wisely.

In her semi-awake state, she unlocked her phone once more. She was so tired that she began to disconnect herself from the reality of her situation, and thought that maybe it was all a sick dream her mind had made up. But there it was, sticking out like a thorn, Ayato Aishi's name in her phone's contact list.

It was the last thing she saw before (Y/n) succumbed to her sleepiness, and her hand dropped her phone as she finally fell into a deep sleep.
