"I've heard that you've already spoken to Senpai about meeting me." (Y/n) heard a voice behind her. She didn't have to guess, she just continued to walk. "It seems that it was correct of me to place my trust in you, (L/n)." She made sure not to make eye contact with him lest he saw the deceit in them.

"Why're you speaking to me? It's Friday, school is over for the week." The whole ordeal only lasted within the span of a few days, and she was looking forward to a period of respite.

"Because," Ayato pulled her by the back of her uniform, which tilted her body so that she would stop and look up at him as he looked down at her, "I'm not done with you."

"What is it that you need from me? In my free time?" She masked her frustration well enough.

"Just continue walking home as you usually do and you'll find out."

"But I have work today."

"Exactly. You work at that café down the street of your apartment, from Friday afternoons to the weekends. Go home and change into your work clothes, I'll meet you there."

"Just how much do you know about my life?" She asked, uncomfortable.

"Enough." He put his hand on her shoulder, his action completely juxtaposed to the chilling one-word answer. He leaned in to one side of her face, so that he was on the same level as (Y/n)'s head, his dark eyes piercing into her circumventing expression, "Now off you go. You wouldn't want to be late, your boss is rather firm with punctuality."

When she had finally gotten to her workplace, she saw Ayato walk out of the staff room. Strange, she thought. Customers weren't allowed there under any circumstances.

She couldn't believe she was intentionally walking up to him, but there she was doing so. "Why did you decide to come here?"

"Why wouldn't I show up to my job?" He asked rhetorically, walking past her.

"Wh-" She was stunned, yet she followed him, "How? When did you even get accepted?!"

"Through an interview, five minutes ago."

She was disgusted by his sheer luck. For her, it was a long process, she had to reach out to the café, wait to get a phone call, do an interview and finally get reached out to get accepted. It took her at least two weeks. It was confusing as to how he managed to get the process over and done with in less than ten minutes.

Anyway, she decided to ignore him since there was no need to speak to him. She was a waitress, so she had to focus on the influx of people that would come in and order food.

"Excuse me." She heard a family call, so she walked to towards them.

"Yes, hello, have you decided what to order yet?" She smiled kindly, taking her pen and notebook out.

She couldn't help but overhear an old woman that sat at the neighbouring table. "Oh my, aren't you just the sweetest boy?"

She began writing the orders down from her own table as her eyes glanced over at over at the table she heard the woman from, only to see Ayato with a small, charming grin plastered onto his face. "It's all you, Ma'am. I only just started working here, so thank you for being patient with me." His eyes twinkled amongst the cafe's gentle lights, and the lady seemed delighted.

(Y/n) was no longer curious as to how he had gotten the job. She was only confused before she saw this side of him, a charismatic one that completely opposed the grotesque ones that she encountered previously. He was incredibly likeable from what she saw then, and it was probably how he had managed to get the owner's sister to hire him on the spot.

She quickly looked back at her notebook and continued working until her shift was over. Not wanting to spend much more time at the café, she wiped down her table and walked to the staff changing room. She decided to leave her uniform there as she didn't want to have to detour anymore to her house just for her uniform, and she changed into something else.

She walked out of the changing room, to see Ayato leaning against a wall and looking down until he looked up at her.

"Why are you still here?"

"To walk home with you. Let's go." The hallway was silent except for the rhythmic sound of their footsteps, which put her in a silent trance partly because of her exhaustion and because of their regularity.

"By the way," she started, "Why did you decide to work here?"

"I figured you would've asked that sooner or later. I realised that you were such a useful tool that I couldn't let the opportunity of your existence slip away from my hands so easily. That's why I want to use you at full capacity, and what better way to do so than to spend almost very waking moment with you when I'm not with Senpai?"

She remained quiet, because there was something much more dubious about what he said, apart from the obvious confession. He clearly omitted something, since things weren't adding up. He couldn't really use her during her shifts, because they'd both be busy working and wouldn't be able to devise plans together.

He was only there to watch her like a hawk, an intimidation tactic. To make sure she didn't stray from him, or get someone involved which would expose the entire plan altogether.

"Out of curiosity, why do you like Taeko so much?" She asked, looking up at him as they left the building. It was getting dark outside, and she held onto her arms to keep herself warm from the wind. The man next to her wasn't particularity affected by the wind, so she decided not to comment on it.

"Why do I like her?" He responded, "Well, there's so much to love about her." (Y/n) saw a quick shift between the emptiness and boredom in his eyes as they began to have a glint to them, similar to what she saw at the café, but much more authentic. "Well, there's her personality. I love how mature and kind she is, and I love how much she loves to analyse things and learn about different things. She's incredibly beautiful, she's also incredibly smart. I think what I like about her the most is..." She tuned out, uninterested by his sudden rambling. (Y/n) noticed how a person's face lit up when they spoke about something they were passionate about, and this was definitely one of those moments.

"Okay, but what made you start liking her?"

"Her compassion for strangers and how she was willing to be kind to someone like me. Someone she didn't even know. It's what pulled me towards her yet it's something that'll prove to be a great nuisance as well. If she was good to me, she'll be kind to others, which'll mean more people will be interested in her."

She listened to him as he explained how he first encountered Taeko. It was a school day, and from what he said, it seemed Taeko was uncharacteristically late to school. She sped walked and collided with him, which caused the both of them to fall onto the ground.

Taeko profusely apologised and helped him up, and gave her his lunch as hurried compensation and she rushed off to her class, unaware that she had accidentally sown the seeds of his deeply rooted infatuation for her.

He described her as the woman of his dreams, literally and metaphorically. He mentioned that his father often told him that he'd one day meet someone who'd make him feel complete, someone who'd cause his heart to feel heavy and saturated with love, and it manifested in the form of an unidentifiable woman who cared for him in his dreams. Now, that woman had a face, and it was Taeko, or his beloved Senpai.

He had to have her. There was no other choice, because he felt as though he only had one shot at love, seeing as his forefathers only loved once and they had all attained the person they cared for, either by force or seduction. It scared (Y/n), but even if she wasn't going to somehow get him arrested, she had to make sure he would never take Taeko forcefully.

She absorbed all that information, and by the end was already at her front door.

"I hope you somewhat understand the importance of my love for Senpai. I'll see you tomorrow." He walked a few steps and turned his head towards her, "Goodnight."
