DJ was quite excited to be going on such an important mission with the leader. Out of all his teammates, he honestly thought Commander would choose Scout. He knew they were basically inseparable. So it was safe to say he was shocked when Commander came up to him after dinner one night with a proposition.

"DJ, I've chosen you to come along with me on a trip. You've got to keep this a secret, as we will be picking up important stuff regarding Fallen King. Am I understood?" Commander had practically cornered him with no way out. DJ wasn't going to reject it, either. He'd always wanted to go on those 'top secret' trips Commander always had to do. It was like a total honor!

"Yeah, sir. Of course," DJ said, nodding. Internally, he was jumping with joy like a total idiot. 'Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit. THE commander chose me! Holy shit?!'

He spent the rest of the night pacing around his room, wondering how the whole deal would play out. Even trying to distract himself by plucking at his guitar didn't stifle that intense feeling of wonder. He felt a little childish, but, honestly, any tower would feel giddy about being chosen by the commander in the first place.

Nonetheless, the next day came and DJ was half-prepared. He was startled by Commander knocking on his door at 6AM. "Ready?" He heard Commander grumble from the other side.

"Yeah, coming! Just a sec."

"Well, hurry. We don't have time to waste." Shit, it was really that serious, huh? DJ messily pulled on his jeans and stumbled to the door, ripping it open to the point of making Commander jump. "Jesus! You could've given me a warning before tearing your door off its hinges!"

"Sorry!"

...

The two walked through the eerily quiet base side-by-side. It was pretty weird seeing the base so...peaceful. Even at this time. He was used to constant chaos erupting from every corner of the place.

"Which car are we taking, Comm?" DJ eventually asked. The silence was kinda bothering him. Commander dug his hand in his back pocket and pulled out a pair of keys.

"Taking one of the humvees. It was the only option that was fairly mundane." He glanced over to DJ. "I don't think taking a tank would be very secretive, now would it?"

"Good point you got there. I'd assume you're driving?"

"Obviously."

"Another very good point." DJ snickered at himself. Commander didn't find it half as amusing as he did, however. They eventually slipped into another bout of silence, still making their way to the garage. "I don't think I've ever seen the garage this people-less before."

He wasn't lying. No Engineer yelling at him to get out and leave her be for "at least five minutes" was pretty new to him.

"Hm, yeah. You get used to it if you wake up the same time I do every day."

"The hell time you wake up at? 4AM?" DJ was joking, but was horrified to see Commander nod. "God damn, Commander. You need to get more sleep."

"Can't sleep when you're as busy as me," Commander said. Without another word shared, he swung the humvee's door open, nearly hitting DJ flat in the face. It reminded DJ of earlier. Respectfully, what a hypocrite. "Uh, DJ?"

DJ cocked a brow. "What's up?"

"Can you help me get in? M-My leg... it's not that good you know." Commander's face contorted into one of mild embarrassment.

"Oh, yeah. Grab onto my arm, I'll hoist you up."

When Commander's hand came in contact with his firm arms, he paused for half a second and shook his head. He must've thought DJ didn't notice, but DJ most certainly did. It was an odd reaction, especially from someone like Commander, yet he didn't comment on it.
