Violet Lewis

I'm doing this for you. It was hot, the sun was blazing and I was standing on the sidewalk in front of the university. The University of Chicago. I'm here after taking a gap year abroad but now I'm back here studying literature. I love reading books and writing my own short stories. My suitcase and bag were in hand and I made my way up to the dorm I would share with my best friend Lila. Our friend Rose had her dorm with someone we didn't know. While doing my gap year I still did some stuff and worked and now I'm in my second year with my girls.

" V! Over here! " Rose, you could tell it was her from miles away; her bubbly and sweet voice her red hair bouncing on her shoulders. " Hi Rose " she smiled at me and I returned it with a hug " We missed you so much! " she smelled sweet it was so calming being back with them " I miss you guys too Rose, where's Lila? " we pulled away from the hug and she grabbed my suitcase and led the way.

My feet trailed slowly behind her. " And here we are! This is you guys. I'm just down the hall. Roomed with some chick named Ella. She kissed me on the cheek and left to find her roomie. I placed my bags and suitcase on the bed and face-planted on it.

I fell asleep.

Drool was on my face and mattress; disgusting. I don't think I was out for long but sitting up in my bed I saw Lila's things on her bed, unpacked and organized. How annoying, she's out here putting stuff away doing god knows what and I'm asleep on my bed. I walked to the dorm bathroom and washed my face. My sweater was on my chair and I grabbed it and threw it on my shoulders, thinking it would be cooler as I was face down in my drool.

The library was not far from where the dorm was which is amazing because I love libraries and cafes. Something about them is so relaxing and calm, the creaky floorboards, the typing of computers or the turning of pages.

The imposing wooden doors creaked as my hands pushed them open. It was quiet; it smelled of wood and old books. I walked up and down each aisle, my fingertips grazing each book's spine. I looked up and saw a boy, his head buried in an F. Scott Fitzgerald book.

My favourite author.

" It's a good book " he glanced up at me, head turned; his eyes were enchanting, his skin was dark and rich he had black curly hair and he looked eloquent. He hummed and looked at the book

" Oh, I'm not very far in this one." He paused. " Have you finished it?" " Have I read it? I lived and breathed that book for months, highlighting, and making sticky notes on every page. He was reading the book Of Love and Loneliness.

The book he read to me. " I finished it a couple of months ago. It's pretty good." I lied but it's okay. When he smiled, his teeth became apparent; they were white and straight. " Violet Lewis " I broke the tension.

" Miles King " He gave me a short bow, and I returned it. His phone buzzed, I could hear it through his black jeans pocket. His face turned sad for a second. " Can I take this? " He looked at me, question in his eyes " Of course "

My arms leaned on the bookcase next to us. Miles walked down the aisle a bit; book in hand kicking imaginary rocks on the wooden floor. His eyes met mine and he looked disappointed " I have to go " My mouth pouted; disgusting I'd known the man for 5 minutes " See you around?

"Looking forward to it Miles King.".
