y/n l/n was born into an unfortunate position. her family had a measly salary income, tax collectors were always on their backs, and they scraped by on empty stomachs. but at least they had their cramped roof over their heads which resided in the worst parts of town. but even so, y/n still found reasons to be grateful for the life she'd been provided.

she had fun at daycare, good friends, and it was apparent at a young age that she was gifted by looks and brains. she also had a loving family, despite the arguments and fights her parents would have when she and b/n were supposed to be asleep. she tried not to focus on their words by covering her ears with her hands or hiding under the covers, but it proved difficult when all it concerned was the state of their family's welfare. so y/n grew up young knowing all the problems her parents harbored, something that no child should have the misfortune of knowing.

"hi, y/n!" her little friend group greeted her. y/n's eyes bounced from each carefree face, and a reassured smile made its way to her lips as she remembered that they all shared the same poor financial situation as her.

"hi-hi!" she waved her chubby hand enthusiastically, her other hand was wrapped around her tabby cat plush.

she sat down in the usual circle formation with her friends. "did you hear we're getting a new kid today?"

"really?" y/n tilted her head, her friend nodded in response.

"oh, he's right there!" one of her friends pointed in the direction of a small toddler with short, choppy blonde hair. he held the index finger of their guardians rather than her hand. she was introducing him to the facility and explaining all the rules and such.

"he's cute..." one of her friends dreamily sighed.

her other friends agreed in unison, whereas y/n tried to squint to discern the appeal. "what do you think y/n?"

"his hair's funny."

"y/n!" her friend lightly slapped her on the shoulder, eliciting giggles from the other girls.

with an almost supernatural intuition, he snapped his head towards them, his piercing azure eyes narrowing directly at her. y/n immediately flinched at the sharp gaze he cast her, she returned one back with as much vigor as she could muster.
