Awakening

I woke up, feeling...very strange. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. The world around me was bright; It took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust. I found myself on a ski slope- it was cold, but my head was warm. I felt my head and realized there was a hat that had been placed on my head. I took it off and saw that it was a grey ushanka; a Russian-style hat with a fur lining and fur on the front and flaps. I was so confused- how did I get here? I stood up and was about to start walking around, when I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Well well well, who do we have here?"

I turned and saw Austin grinning at me with a smug look on his face. What was he doing here?

"Fuck, what do you want Austin? What are you even doing here?" I examined him while speaking. He too was wearing an ushanka on his head, but his was black instead of grey. He began to speak, but he got cut off by a skier who passed rapidly between us. We both got covered in snow, and Austin looked like a total idiot.

"Hahaha, that was pathetic! You didn't even make an attempt to finish your sentence!" Laughter erupted from my throat as Austin glared down at me in annoyance. He sighed heavily and tried to keep his anger in check. He tried to hide it, but I saw right through his lies.

"Look, I don't know how we got here, but we need to find a way back as soon as possible," Austin said. I hesitated, before answering him. Did he want to form a temporary truce?

"You want to form a truce...?" I asked cautiously.

"Just until we get back, because if we're going to get out of here..." he paused. "If we're going to get out of here I might need your help. We'd have a better chance of getting out of here if...we stick together."

I was honestly surprised that he was the one initiating the truce, but he did have a valid point. I weighed out my options.

Option one, work with Austin to find our way out and try not to fight with him for once.

Option two, don't work with Austin, avoid the fights, but have a decreased chance of survival.

I looked around. The mountain looked big- and dangerous. I decided to pick option one.

"Hmmm...okay then. Let's do this." Austin held out his hand. I took it.

"Truce?"

"Truce."

I shook his hand and felt a weight lifted off my chest. So this is finally the time when we are literally not allowed to fight. Perhaps we could finally get along. Let's get out of here.
