Simon keeps going, same cycle. He puts the helmet on, goes flying, and then Quinn helps him up, dusts him off and reassures him. After everyone else starts to go to sleep, Quinn stays up with him, despite his protests. Soon he starts to show signs of fatigue and frustration.
"Simon take a break. You've been at this for hours." Quinn pleads with him
"I'm fine. I have to do this. If I don't attune with it, all of this was for nothing! You should go to bed though, I know you're tired." Simon refuses
"I'm not saying to give up, just take a minute to breathe. You've been at this for 3 hours, which means we have 5 hours till we leave. You can take an hour to step back, relax, rest, do whatever, just leave the helmet alone. You're not getting anywhere because you're getting frustrated and tired, take a breather." She bargains with him
He takes a deep breath and walks over to the rock she's sitting on. "Fine." He sits with her
"That's the spirit! You can do this Simon, you just gotta get out of your head." She says staring up at the sky
He leans his head on her shoulder "Thank you." He says quietly
"Always." She smiles, patting his head.
After a while she starts to notice him drifting in and out of sleep "Go to sleep. I'll wake you up in an hour." He doesn't say anything, just nods slightly and she feels him relax next to her.
Lucky for him, he wakes up on his own in an hour because Quinn has no concept of time (Just like me fr) and she fell asleep too. He drapes his cloak over her and goes back to trying to attune.
He works on it for hours before he gives up. He goes to wake up Edgin. " Ed! Ed! We've got a problem" Edgin stirs awake "I can't do it!" Simon explains
"The helmet?" Edgin asks
"I've been at it for hours! I can't get past the old bastard! I said I couldn't attune. Now I'm the prat!" He continues to freak out
The rest of them start to wake up "Simon what's wrong?" Avery asks, walking over
"Yeah, what's the racket?" Holga complains
"He's having a little trouble with the helm." Edgin explains
"Come on Simon, just do it!" She pushes
"Oh. yeah, okay. Yeah. Thanks, Holga. I'll just do it." He walks down the hill and tosses the helmet in the sand before turning back to Ed "This is exactly what I told you would happen back at the tavern, but you wouldn't listen. " he points at him
"What do you mean, you told him?" Doric walks over
"He said to keep it between us for morale." He points between them before throwing his arms up for dramatic effect
"I.." Edgin tries to say something
"Do you know why? Because he is the most pigheaded person I've ever known! You talk us into doing things you know won't work, and then you blame us when it goes pear-shaped!" Simon continues yelling at Ed as Quinn walks over.
"If you can't attune, we'll figure out a Plan B." He attempts to calm them down
"Plan B? We dug up my family. We went to the Underdark for that helmet. And you knew the whole time that he couldn't use it?" Holga gets involved now
"You humans. You just can't help but lie!" Doric adds
Quinn pinches the bridge of her nose "You have seriously got to be the most selfish, manipulative, controlling man I have ever met!"
"I haven't known you for long but I can tell this probably isn't the first time you've done something like this. If so, I have no idea how any of them trusted you." Avery shakes her head walking over to Quinn and Simon
