Sky and Kadeem : A Hood Love Story

The Holidays

Christmas came and i was two months pregnant. I had it all planned out to surprise Kadeem but he winded up finding the present in our closet. Tyhir , me and Kadeem were scheduled to get our pictures for the holidays done. Tina took us to her friend who does photography. We drove over to the studio and met her at the studio. Tina was sitting in the chair watching as we posed for our pictures. I saw her frown a couple times but i shrugged it off. She probably had a lot on her mind.

"Mommy, I want a motorcycle for Christmas. Aunt Kyra said she will give me one." Tyhir smiled.

"Baby..mommy is gonna get you a dirt bike. I will tell Aunt Kyra when i speak to her later on."I said, kissing Tyhir's forehead. I adjusted his Tie and took a personal picture with him before we got in the car and headed home. Kadeem hurried out of his suit and back into his casual fit while I got tyhir and i undressed.

"Baby...i gotta go do something real quick.I'll be back."Kadeem said, kissing me on the forehead.

"It's Christmas Eve Kadeem...you gotta go right now?"

"Baby the grind doesn't stop just because of the holidays. I gotta run down Kelly Drive and i'll be back in 20 minutes. I promise."I said, kissing him. I nodded, then made cookies with Tyhir before putting him to bed. I turned on the tv and watched tv until it watched me. When I woke up it was 7 am and I didn't hear Kadeem come in. He was sitting at the kitchen table counting money.

"Good morning baby."I smiled while kissing him before making myself some coffee.

"Merry Christmas baby.. When do you plan on getting Tyhir up? I gotta go take care of something ?."

"Around 8...where are you goin ?"

"I have a couple runs to make. I will be back before 5."Kadeem said standing up and grabbing his duffel bag.

"Kadeem! Really?! Its the holidays?!"

"I don't got time for this shit."Kadeem said walking out of the door. A couple minutes later my mother walked in with presents for me and Tyhir.

"Merry Christmas Baby!"She smiled kissing me.

"Thank you mom, Merry Christmas ." sighed turning on the radio and sitting down on the sofa.

"Whats going on?" She said sitting next to me.,

"Nothing mom."

"Sky...you are my daughter. I know when something is wrong with you . Now tell me whats wrong."

"Mom...I don't like how Kadeem has been acting.He hasn't been here like that."

"Well has he been making money or you think he's cheating?"

"I don't know what's going on mom . It just hasn't been the same."

"Listen baby...don't be a fool...if you feel like something goin on check that shit...but you gotta have proof of something." She said, I nodded and laid my head against her shoulder. I prayed that he wasn't doing me wrong . I prayed that I was just being paranoid. My mother and I cooked Christmas Dinner and let Tyhir open his presents. A couple hours later Lakyra came knocking on the door. She was with Tyhir's grandmother and carried presents.

"Heyyy how have you been Geraldine!"My mother smiled, hugging Tyhir's grandmother.

"I've been good girl. Damn it's been awhile."Geraldine smiled. While they talked Tyhir , Lakyra and I sat at the kitchen table and colored with him.

"My mom and I are moving back to New York.... I just got a job out there...We want Tyhir at least every summer."She said smiling at him as he colored.

"You know this gonna be an adjustment for him. He is used to seeing you guys every weekend."

"I know...i know...I wish my brother was here you know wherever he went Tyhir went."She said fighting back tears.

"We will make something work girl.. Thank you guys for all that you do for him."I said hugging her. Lakyra and i talked for a little longer until it was time for her and Geraldine to go. My mother put Tyhir to sleep while i sat on the couch filing my nails. A couple minutes later Kadeem came through the door. He carried a present in his hand and handed it to me after giving me a kiss.

"Thank you baby. Merry Christmas."I smiled as i opened it. Inside of the box was custom rose timberland boots and a name necklace. I kissed Kadeem again and laid my head against his shoulder.

"I'll be home for the rest of the weekend. I love you Sky."He said holding my hand.

"I love you too Kadeem." We fell asleep in the living room with music playing ..
